Add Vava

"Hey, are you okay?"

X looked up, blinking hard to keep the tears from showing as he stared at the reploid who had approached him. He was a purple color and a full helmet hid his face from view, hiding whether or not he was simply mocking him or if he actually cared. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, a memory stirred. Someone else used to hide themselves ... their eyes ... I used to get mad at ... him .... yes, it was a him. I used to get mad when he did that. I wanted to see his eyes.

"Who are you?" he asked, swallowing around the lump in his throat. His cheek still hurt where Zero had hit him. He wished it would stop.

The other reploid sat down next to him, not bothering to ask permission, "I'm Vava. You're X, right?"

"Yeah, I'm X ... what do you want?" No one approached him who didn't want something, whether favors or influence or prestige or access to Dr. Cain ... no one. No one except Sigma ever talked to me at all.

"Just to talk. You don't mind, do you?" Vava smiled, or at least, X thought he smiled. He couldn't really tell with the helmet in the way.

"No ... it's okay."

"Don't let Zero get you down. He's like that to all the rookies. Trying to see if they have the guts to fight back or not."

"I guess."

"Are you?" A hand reached out to touch his shoulder, careful, tentative.

"Am I what?" he asked, looking at Vava in mild confusion. Vava was not acting as he had expected, he hadn't asked for anything yet ...

"Are you okay?"

"Yes," X said firmly.

The other reploid slid closer, sliding an arm around his shoulders in a friendly, almost conspiratorial fashion, "You don't look it ... wanna talk about it? Whatever it is ... "

He shrugged, uncomfortable in the other's embrace, but seeing no reason to be rid of it. It was .... nice. "He was my friend," he said simply.

"Who was?"

"Sigma. He was the only friend I've had. He used to play chess with me when Dr. Cain was out."

"So those rumors about you and him being lovers are all lies, right."

"Of course!" he snapped in indignation.

Vava made a gesture of peace, "Hey, it's cool ... you know people just like to talk. But go on, he was your friend ... must have hurt when he turned Maverick."

"It did ... I want to help ... since he was my friend. Help him be normal again ... and if not ... kill him, so he'll be free."
