Music of the Night

Seduced by The Dark

As the night time sharpens and heightens each sensation... the darkness wakes and stirs the imagination alife. And silently, the senses abandon all their defences... Little humans should beware. Be aware, and do not listen too closely to the rustles in the shadows..

"Helpless to resist, the notes I write. So see, I compose the music of the night..."

Slowly, gently, the night unfurls all its splendour around them. High night sky and lush dark trees of the forest.

"Grasp it, sense it , - tremulous and tender. Hearing is believing. Music is deceiving... Hard as lightning, or soft as candlelight... - Dare you trust the music of MY night...?"

She closes her eyes, for her eyes will only tell the truth tonight. And the truth isn't what she want to see. Alone in the dark it's easy to pretend that the truth is what it ought to be. What she want it to be. Harmless.

"Softly, deftly... Music shall caress you... Hear it, and feel it... secretly possess you."

Fingers touching, taunting at the edge of awareness. Her ears can't hear the music, yet still her inner moves to it's rhythms and rhymes. Do not open up your mind and let your fantasies unwind! So yell reason.... In this darkness which you know you cannot fight, - the darkness of the music of the night... - Do not listen! But...

"Close your eyes, and start a journey through a strange new world! Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before! Close your eyes! ... And let music set you free... Only then can you belong to ME..."

Floating, falling. Oh sweet intoxication! Reason, - where did the reason go? Vanished... She's falling... falling... No. But the chanting so sweet. So sweet.

"Touch me, trust me! Savour each sensation... - Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in... to the power of the music that I write for you now. - It's the power of the music of the night... "

The touch of darkness' wings, so enchanting. So willing... to fall.

"You alone can make my song take flight, my Lina. - Help me make the music of the night, ... help me..."

The sounds of voices from outside the darkness. To leave this place of sweet sensation? But wait, there's reason again... She should not be there! Should not fall! Come help me up again, my reason... and my light.

Lina Inverse holds her cheek in utter confusion. What? Where? When? Then she remembers. Her, Gourry, Amelia, Zel, Xelloss... on a journey towards north on a possible adventure, as always. A camp for the night, nothing unusual. She can even see the flickers of the fire's light through the trees, some way away. The situation is out of grasp. The little princess' voice calls cheery from the light's direction. It calls 'Dinner'. What game was she just playing, and falling? She can't remember.

"Come we must return." A low voice tells her.

"Those fools who run my theatre will be missing you..."

She watches his lupine eyes watch the others as he stands. She follows suit and wonders. But yet again, some tunes is better left forgotten. Better left forgotten through the night.

Notes

This scene is written of the lyrics of the song Music of the night, from The Phantom of the Opera, by Andrew Lloyd Webber. - As any true musical-fan should recognise. I've simply just used Webber's beautifully written text as base manuscript for the scene, and fleshed it out to the scene of seduction it is. I love this song.
