An Old Story

"My, my. You are up quite early considering the fact that you stayed up 'till four in the morning, Sarah-chan." A tall, purple haired figure said from the shadows.

"Oh, and since when did you start counting how late I was up?" A young red-haired girl replied, bonking him on the head.

"That was mean, Sarah-chan," Xelloss Metallium whined with mock hurt, rubbing the back of his head.

"Serves you right," Sarah said," You shouldn't spy on me!"

"But I'm your big brother so I have to watch you!" Xelloss said in an attempt to defend himself.

"Not to mention Jouu-sama would kill you if you let her general get into trouble, hmmm?" Sarah said smartly.

They walked carefully down the corridor to the giant doors that led into Beastmaster's throne room. Once they got to the doorway, they stood still, awaiting their mistress to permit them in. Once the command was given they both entered silently.

"You called for us, mistress?" Sarah asked bowing down to Jouu Zelas Metallium; the Beastmaster.

"Yes, I did. I have a special order for you Sarah," Zelas replied," I need you to get back a scroll for me. It is very important, and somehow it got over Gold Dragons."

"Of course, Jouu-sama." With that, Sarah phased out.

"Jouu-sama, may I go too?" Xelloss asked eagerly. He always loved making trips over to the Gold Dragons. They were so easy to torment!

"No, Xelloss." She said," After what happened last time, I'm not letting you go."

"But I didn't get caught! I - " He was cut short by his mistress.

"A 'no' is a 'no' Xelloss! The point is; you almost got caught!" She yelled," This is too important for you to screw up!"

"Yes ma'am." Xelloss said quietly. With that he phased out as well.

Zelas smiled, even Xelloss knew to not push his luck. At first glance, she didn't look exactly threatening. In fact, she had an air of beauty. She had long purple-blond hair with tan skin and a nice figure. Her clothes were a bit...low-cut. Actually, she would have made most men go crazy, but when you looked closely, you could see the bloodthirsty look she got at times, and the way when she smiled, she seemed to have long glistening fangs. Not to mention the way she would look at you with those slitted pupils; through the eyes of a preditor.

Xelloss had phased into a little town outside of the Demon Sea, looking for some fun. He quickly spotted a young couple sitting under a tree having lunch. He fluidly, glided into the shadows and waited for the right moment. Back in the Gold Dragons territory, Sarah moved quickly, weaving in and out of the shadows.

"Hmmm, it should be around here somewhere..." she murmured to herself.

"Halt!" a young female voice shouted as she tried to slip into the temple. Sarah stopped dead in her tracks and looked over to where the voice had come from, planning to put a sleep spell on whoever it was. Yet, when she looked back she saw nothing, when she looked down she saw what appeared to be a young Gold Dragon girl around the ages of 9-10.

"Well, well, and who might you be?" Sarah asked politely, the girl was obviously surprised by her formal tone.

She shrugged it of and snarled," None of your business, you're a mazoku, and that's all I need to know!"

"My, my. Is that what they teach you in school these days?" Sarah asked with mock hurt," See a mazoku, immediately attack? Tsk, tsk. What ever happened to manners?"

The smaller girl seemed disturbed by this question," Manners? We have plenty of manners! It's you monsters that should have manners!

"Well excuse me, but who's the one that's yelling?" Sarah asked in amusement.

"I-I, You're still my captive now!" The younger girl stammered, changing the subject.

"Oh, am I really?" Sarah asked with a lazy grin appearing on her face.

"Y-yes, Y-you are." The girl stated, now obviously frightened.

"Look kid, I don't really want to kill anybody on purpose today, so let me get our scroll and I'll be on my way." Sarah said calmly.

"You're not going to kill me?" The girl asked with confusion.

"Would you like me to?" Sarah asked, now irritated by the way the little girl acted.

"N-no!" She shouted, "Of course not. But I can't let you have that scroll" Sarah sighed and decided to just teleport past the girl and went into the temple.

"Hey! Wait! You can't go in there! That's the sacred temple!" the Gold Dragon shouted.

"Exactly, so you would keep the scroll in here," Sarah replied walking towards the stand," and what is your name anyway? I don't like talking to people and not know their names."

"I'm not supposed to give my name out to raw gar- I meant mazoku," she said flatly, "but you seem like a nice one so I'll tell you. It's Nalazia, Nalazia Se Labela."

"Raw garbage? And a 'nice one'? You make me sound like an object." Sarah's muffled voice came out, as she stuck her head into the little stand at the top of the stairs," Nice name though."

That must have been a shock to Nalazia, because she looked about ready to faint.

"What's with you?" Sarah asked, now the scroll safely in her hand.

"I-I just never thought mazoku could ever be polite." She answered," And the fact that we're trapped in here because there's a barrier that lets us in but not out, cast by some of the most famous and powerful Gold Dragons in this world.

"Oh," Sarah said lightly, but then," THERE'S A WHAT ON THIS TEMPLE!?"

"A-a b-barrier." Nalazia whispered, frightened.

"Oh boy, is Beastmaster gonna kill me now." Sarah said with a low groan.

"That isn't the least of your problems," Nalazia added," The priests of this temple come every afternoon and if you are found, they will execute you immediately."

"Oh great, now I have my mistress AND some psychopath Gold Dragon Priests after me." Sarah said in a low voice.

Mean while, Xelloss had just finished the most delicious lunch; fear and pain topped off with some blood, and was just sitting around when he felt his mistress call him so he phased out and back in to Wolf-Pack Island.

"You called Mistress?" Xelloss chirped happily.

"Yes I did. Now shut up and listen." Zelas said in a dead serious tone." It seems Sarah has gotten in to a little bit of ...trouble."

"So I have to go help her out?" Xelloss asked.

"No, we'll watch for a while and if it gets too dangerous we bring her back, besides she can slide out the door when they open it."

"Okay!" He sang out.

Back at the temple, Sarah had been pacing around like a caged animal.

"I can't believe this! This is the worst day of my life!" She kept muttering to herself as Nalazia simply sat watching her.

"You know, it won't be that bad. It'll be quick and painless!" The young girl said trying to cheer up the now incredibly worried looking mazoku general," I've seen some and they don't even seem to feel it! I swear, it's down in the blink of an eye!"

Sarah groaned," Any more bad news?" With that she kept pacing when the wide doors burst open.

"I was right! There it is! The mazoku's in here!" A man shouted.

"And it has Nalazia with it! I swear if you hurt her you monster I'll kill you with my bare hands!" Another man that looked similar to Nalazia shouted.

"It? Hurt her? Monster? Kill me with his bare hands? Where do you people get this stuff?! For one thing, I am a she, not an 'it'!" Sarah yelled out, irritated.

A young man with blond hair stepped out," I have found an efficient way to kill any mazoku!" he shouted, and with that held out a small golden sphere," This, my friends, is a soul orb, and if a being's soul orb is destroyed, they shall not only die, but will suffer eternal pain!"

Sarah's eyes widened dramatically," Where did you get that!?" She asked with shock.

"That is something I cannot tell! Now be gone!" The man yelled, and nearly broke it when Nalazia yelled at him to stop.

"I think this one is different! Why don't you let her live?!" she pleaded.

"Hmph, rubbish, no mazoku is different!" And with that the man simply crushed the small sphere in his hand...

...And Sarah felt as if her heart had frozen. Then pain. There was a lot of pain. She felt as if someone was turning her stomach inside out. She slowly fell to her knees as the pain increased.

"Sarah-chan!" Xelloss cried as he looked into the crystal ball, along with the Beastmaster.

"I don't believe it! Where could he have gotten her soul orb! Only L-sama and Hellmaster Phibrizo knew how!" Zelas cried out to an empty room, for Xelloss had already left.

Sarah had now lost her energy to sit up and fell forward, clutching her chest. Her breath was coming out in short gasps as she did all she can to get the next breath.

"Sarah-chan!" Xelloss cried out as he phased into the temple. The crowd had gathered as people now clearly saw the mark or the Beastmaster on her armor and realized that they had just gotten rid of an incredibly high-level mazoku. They all cheered saying that they had gotten rid of a nuisance and they could rest easier.

Only Nalazia didn't cheer, instead she stared and looked as pale as a ghost. She was the only one who realized that they were becoming just as murderous as the supposed evil race of the mazoku.

Sarah felt the world tilt as her line of vision got foggy and her eyes slowly drifted shut for an eternal slumber.

"Sarah-chan," Xelloss breathed in shock, she was indeed dead. Gone, she would be gone forever, his former partner and sister was dead. Just then Beastmaster herself appeared. She too stared in shock at her former loyal servant and general's lifeless body.

Xelloss felt anger, and let out a very un-smiling-trickster-priest-like curse. He had felt anger before, but he had learned to suppress it. To hide it with a smile, but now wasn't one of those times. Just then something caught his eye in Sarah's hand. The scroll. Through this entire ordeal she had held on to the scroll.

The Beastmaster was about to rip out each and every one of their throats. She had lost possibly one of the most loyal servants she would ever get! Xelloss phased out and appeared again at his sister's side and gently took the scroll from her hand. He simply picked her up, shot a glare that would have made an entire mountain get up and run away, and whispered," You'll get it coming someday," and phased out.

Unfortunately, Zelas wasn't as good at keeping her temper. Soon anything within 100 miles of there was fried and dead as fire swept the ground. Nalazia died a quiet death and was glad to die. She was ashamed to be apart of such a race now.

"You had it coming." Zelas whispered darkly and teleported away.
