navy = flashback
It is the year 2002. The time of magic is over. The world has dropped it for a new type of magic, technology. Sorcerers have been replaced by technicians, magic books replaced by lap-top computers. Nobody even believes in creatures like ryuzoku and mazoku anymore. Supposedly they had all died off, that is, if they had ever existed in the first place. It is a cold world.
Tonight it's colder than usual for this time in spring. The rain is pouring down on the cement sidewalks of New York City. There is a young woman walking down the road, trying to stay warm and dry inside her black cloak. Surprisingly she is in no rush, despite the wind and rain beating down upon her. She looks up at one of the apartment buildings with her large teal-colored eyes. With a sigh, she enters the building.
It's been such a long time. I wonder if he will even remember me. Does it always have to rain when you're depressed? His room is just down this hall ... I can't do it today, there's no way I can face him yet. With her thoughts and regrets still spinning through her head, she walks back down the stairs and exits the building. Braving the weather once more, the woman walks back to her hotel.
The next morning there is still a slight chill in the air from last nights storm. The sky had cleared up and the sun was shining brightly, reminding all of the people that it is spring. A young woman with large teal eyes is just coming out of her hotel room. She didn't get any sleep last night. It has been this way since she came to this city last week. However she manages to fake a cheerful smile as she heads off to her job.
A few blocks away from the girl's hotel in his vast apartment, Xander Tallium was about to leave for work. He was wide awake and well rested from his week long vacation. For the past week, all he did was sit around and enjoy his time off. He looks over at the clock on the wall, shit and notices that he is already ten minutes late. Grabbing his shoes, he runs out the door and slides into the elevator just as the door was closing.
"Late again, huh," Ami teased. Xander looks at her and remembers the remarkable resemblance that she has with a particular princess from his past. "You should learn to be on time, I almost forgot to hold the door for you."
"Thanks Ami," the doors opened on the ground floor and Xander dashed out, "see you later!" Xander takes off in a sprint down the street, he misses the good old days when he could teleport instead. If people saw him do that now, he would have to move again. Almost there, 'round this corner and if I can sneak in without Filia -- I mean Fiona seeing me I might just ...
"Xander Tallium, you're late again. On your first day back from vacation too. Hurry up and get in there; the new girl has been covering for you for the past 15 minutes." Xander heads into the back room and sees his friend Elizabeth.
"Hey, Xander. Did Fiona see you?" She looks and sounds just like that fiery sorceress, Lina Inverse.
"Yeah, she saw me. I don't know what happened, I looked at the clock and it was ten after." Then he remembers what his boss said. "Hey, do you know who this new girl is that she mentioned?"
"Oh yeah, her name's Kelly. She started about a week ago. I think she just moved here from LA."
"Okay, well I guess I should get out there before Fiona comes looking for me. See you tonight at Pizza Hut." Xander walks out towards the front of the store and notices the blue-haired girl standing over at the counter. She looks familiar. With the last customer gone, Kelly turns around to see who's standing behind her. When she looked up at the man, she gasped in shock.
Oh no, what's s/he doing here? Xander was the first to speak. "Kalis, is that you?"
"Um, well .. hi Xellos. Funny running into you." She then turns away and runs off toward the boss' office. Kelly walks into the office to see Fiona working on the ledgers. "Ms. Fiona, I'm not feeling well right now. Is it okay if I go home now?"
Fiona looks up from her books, "Of course you can, tell Xander that you're leaving. I want you to go straight home and get some rest. You look as though you haven't slept in a week."
"Thank you Ms. Fiona. I'll do just that." Kelly walks back out to where Xander was left standing. "I'll come by tonight so we can talk. I'm leaving now." Before any objections could be made, she had walked out the door. Xander continued the rest of the day thinking of how and why Kalis is back after all this time.
"Kalis, what were you doing with that guy. You are mine,
why can't you remember that?"
"Xellos, you know I love you but, ... nobody owns me! I will do what I want, when I want
to, and with whomever I please. If you can't understand that, then we have a problem."
About 6:30 that evening, Xander Talium walked in through his door. He had just gotten his shoes off when the phone rang. Afraid of who it might be, he lets the machine pick it up. 'Xander Talium, I know you're there. Pick up the phone. Garry and I have been waiting here for you since 6:00. Did you forget about Pizza Hut tonight? Damn it, pick up the phone.' He reaches down and lifts the phone to his ear. "Hi Liz, yeah I did forget. .. I'm sorry, I'm not going to be able to make it down there tonight, I've made other plans. .. I know I still owe you that pizza, I'll make it up to you next time. .. Fine I'll buy you two pizzas. ..."
Kelly was slowly meandering down the familiar route between her hotel and Xander's apartment. She knew that there was no turning back this time, he has already seen her. About the time she was reconsidering, the building came into view. Almost mechanically, she reached out for the door to the building and walked in. Kelly approached the stairwell and she felt as though she was outside of herself; she was watching herself climb the stairs without any control over her actions. Upon reaching the third floor, Kelly made her way down to the end of the hallway to Xander's door. Of its own volition, her hand reaches up to knock on the door.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Xander had finally pacified Liz enough to get her to hang up the phone. When he heard the knock on the door, his heart froze. He was afraid and excited about answering the door. Xander wasn't sure of whether or not he could open his door; he knew that tonights conversation would eventually lead back to that horrible memory of when she left. With a sudden burst of courage, he went to his door and opened it. For so many years he had longed to see the face that met him on the other side of the doorway. After a few moments of silence, he asked her to come in.
"Hello Xellos." She sits down on the couch and begins. "I don't know what to say; I've spent the past week trying to figure it out. Every night, I would come here only to chicken out and turn around. I've missed you so much."
"Where have you been for all this time? It was just a fight."
"It wasn't 'just a fight,' Xellos. It was my freedom."
Xellos barges into Kalis' room. There he sees Kalis and Zelgadis, sleeping in eachothers arms, only wearing the down comforter on their bed. Kalis is woken up by the sudden noise created from Xellos. He stares at the two in shock, then rage. He storms over to the bed and picks Zelgadis up by the neck, then he throws him across the room. "Xellos, stop! What the hell are you doing?!" Kalis climbs out of the bed with the sheet wrapped around her. She runs over and stands between Xellos and Zelgadis. "How dare you barge into my room and attack him like that."
"It would never had happened if you hadn't gone and slept with Zelgadis. You were mine." He realized the error of his words immediatly. However, he couldn't seem to make his voice tell that he was sorry.
"Are we having the same fight again? Listen, you weren't around and he was. He was feeling down, I was comforting him, and one thing led to another. Zelgadis was a very attractive man, and .. I Do Not. Belong. To. You." Kelly turns around facing towards the door. "Apparently this isn't going to work. I should have never tried coming back. We will not have this argument again. Ya know, I still love you, but .. this just won't work." She starts to leave, but just before walking out, she says without looking back, "Goodbye Xellos."
"Wait, don't go Kalis."
"I won't take orders from anybody."
"I wasn't trying to order you, it was more like begging actually." A slight smile appears on Kelly's face. She turns around and walks straight into Xander's arms and wraps them around herself.
"Well, I guess I can accept begging." Teal gems meet amethyst crystals; lips meet lips.
