Xellos watched as Kim sat on the dusty floor. She was surrounded by toys on all sides yet wasn't even attempting to play with any of them. She wasn't even moving. Xellos mumbled to himself.
"She's just like her father. Cold and distant... stone cold." Xellos chuckled at his bad joke. Kim blinked and looked up at him.
"Now, now, Kim." Xellos grinned at her with his eyes closed. "Why don't you play with your new toys?" Kim frowned.
"You are just trying to make me forget about my father."
Xellos opened his eyes, surprised. She was so intelligent for a 9 year old.
"No! Of course not. We just don't want you getting into any trouble."
"No, Xellos. It's because Beastmaster wants to use my power. She's just making you babysit for me." Kim narrowed her eyes in disgust.
"When did you get so observant, young lady?" Xellos began to get worried. He was one of the only people she had ever known, and definitely the closest person to her. He couldn't understand how she could still be so distant, or why she wanted to see her father so much. He tried to cheer her up. "Want to play tea party?"
She tried to stay stiff, but his goofy expression made her crack. She giggled at his pathetic attempt to change the subject. Finally, she decided to act content for a while. She picked up a tea cup.
Far away, back on earth, Zelgadis snuck away from the Inn. He didn't want anyone knowing about his departure, because he knew they would follow along, especially Lina. Amelia may have clung to him a bit too much, but she knew when to leave him alone. Lina on the other hand had almost complete control over him. He took advantage of his chimera speed and raced towards his destination. Finally he reached it; an abandoned temple atop a hill.
He walked through the immense doorway. Bats screeched in voices that would have been silent to human ears and flew in circles. Darkness consumed Zelgadis as he headed left into a dank hallway.
He came upon a bookcase full of dusty scrolls and manuscripts. Zel's eyes flicked back and forth over the books. Finally, his gaze rested on a tiny packet of papers. It resembled an instruction booklet of some sort. He reached his stone hand up to it and pulled it out. Wiping the dust off of the cover he read the title to himself.
He flipped through the pages until he came to chapter two. With that he sat back against the wall and proceded to read.
In the distance the sun was beginning to rise. Lina was already up preparing breakfast. She hummed quietly to herself, imagining the pancakes she was going to eat.
"I hope Zelgadis wakes up soon. He can make better pancakes than I can."
"Miss Lina!" Amelia ran down the stairs. "Mr. Zelgadis isn't in his room!"
"What? He isn't? Where is he?"
"I don't know. There isn't any note or anything!"
Lina pondered thoughtfully.
"Amelia, why were you looking in Zel's room?" Lina questioned Amelia. Amelia's eyes widened. She blushed.
"Oh! Nothing, Miss Lina. I just passed by it. That's all," she stated nervously. "But that doesn't matter now! We have to find Mr. Zelgadis and make sure that he is alright!"
Lina nodded. Her hair fell into her face and she leaned over the stove.
"After breakfast, Amelia. After breakfast."
