Everything You Want

Notes

MnoM: Alllll righty, this songfic is copyright of me, Murasaki no Miko, cause I uh... wrote it.

Xelloss: *slow applause*

MnoM: *glare* Shut UP, Fruitcake. Ahem, anyway, 'Everything You Want' is copyright of Vertical Horizons. I clipped the song a bit or else this'd be really long-

Xelloss: -and since she wrote this out first, she felt lazy and didn't want to type it all up.

MnoM: ... *brandishes gong* Don't MAKE me do it, Mazoku....

Xelloss: ^_^() Hai, hai, I'm quiet.....

MnoM: GOOD! Stay that way!! Bwah. Alright, here's the depressing li'l songfic thing.... what can I say, I was having a bad day when I wrote it.

Xelloss: There are times you DON'T have a bad day?

MnoM: ..... *raises gong*

*WAHKAAAAAAAANNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG....*

Xelloss: ....ow. *falls over*

MnoM: ahh...^_^ That felt good.

Somewhere there's speaking
I hear it comin' in

"Mazoku can't love, everyone knows that." Yes, he remembered her saying that... her very voice and face burned the memory into his eyelids, making it so it would flash before him whenever his eyes were shut.

oh and it's rising
in the back of your mind

He'd never felt such pain before, such total misery; never had anyone dared to hurt him in such a way. For once, he couldn't even enjoy the pain he felt at all. It was a dagger twisting in his heart whenever he saw her firey red hair and deep crimson eyes. This was the first true agony he'd felt, the only thing to send him into despair in his 10,000 years of existance... and it wasn't just because she had said this horrible thing. It was because she'd no idea of how much it pained him.

you never could get it
unless you were fed it

After she said those few hateful words, she'd just gone on with her business, fighting Gourry for food and carping at Zelgadiss for being depressed. He had sat in a gnarled old willow away from them all, wearing his customary masked expression of a smile as his heart shattered within his chest.

And now you're here
and you don't know why

The next day also went on as usual, of course. Everyone following Lina to L-sama knows where, Gourry stating his current clueless state and paying for it with a Dil Brand, Ameria jumping onto various high objects and falling flat on her face, Zelgadiss glaring about coldly from beneath his hood.

but under skinned knees
and skid marks

Xelloss acted normal as well, smiling cheerfully and walking slightly behind the group... but inside, he felt hollow, as if something had been stolen from him. How could she have said such a thing so absently, as if it were no worse than telling someone the weather? He did love her. He wanted her, more than anything.

pass the places
where you used to learn

He'd spent all this time alongside her, done so much for her, and she couldn't even tell. He'd tricked her a few times, he admitted to that - taunted her this way, poked fun at her that way, moved her into some hard situations - but he couldn't help doing so. He adored how her eyes flashed like bleeding rubies when she was angry, or how her voice became strong yet mocking as she spoke to even the deadliest of foes.

you howl and listen
listen and wait for

He'd even had the privilage of seeing those rare moments where she excused herself from the group, off to places where she believed no one could see nor hear her, and cried away all her hate, fear, and sadness, making up for those many times she had not. Part of him loved to watch her, the powerful warrior becoming a trembling girl, her cheeks tinted pink as the tears flowed down from her eyes, and would drink deeply of her sadness and fear, relishing its savory taste... but more of him felt naught but sorrow and guilt, wanting ever so badly to go to the hurt child and hold her in his arms, comforting her. He longed to wipe those shimmering tears away, and to tell her it would be all right; but he knew she would never allow such a thing to occur. She could never trust a Mazoku for such things.

the echos of angels
who won't return

After a rather unpleasent battle against a lesser Mazoku, Lina had gone off on her own into the forest, doing a fairly decent job of covering up how shaken she was. Xelloss watched her from the shadows of the trees, and his heart skipped a beat as Lina sat beside a quiet river, a small tear escaping down her cheek. Xelloss tightened his grip on his staff, trembling. He could not stand to watch her cry again, to see those sparkling crimson eyes filled with lonliness and pain, and yet he found he could not leave. He watched her awhile, then finally came to a descision... today he would comfort her, as he'd always wished to do. With a deep breath, Xelloss prepared to step into the light, but recoiled upon hearing a voice.

he's everything you want
he's everything you need

Lina looked over her shoulder, and out stepped Gourry, concern evident in his face. Lina rose to her feet and wiped her eyes, studdering out excuses. Xelloss' eyes widened as Gourry rushed to her, wrapping his arms around her small body and stroking her hair.

he's everything inside of you
that you wish you could be

Rage flared inside his heart as he watched the blonde swordsman do everything he should be doing, stand where he should be standing, and hold the woman HE deserved to have. Lina buried her face in Gourry's shirt, then looked up at him... slowly, Gourry leaned down and kissed her on her lips.

he says all the right things
at exactly the right time

Xelloss trembled with rage, clenching his teeth together as the two embraced. He deserved her, not that moronic kurage!! He gave her the Demon's Blood Talismans, he helped her survive against countless enemies, HE stopped those who spread rumors! Him, him, HIM.

but he means nothing to you
and you don't know why

Soon, the two pushed apart, blushing with embaressment. Xelloss turned away, breathing heavily in an attempt to control his anger. It should be him, but it wasn't... and he knew it never would be.

you're waiting for someone
to put you together

Sensing the two leave the area, he turned and walked out into the clearing, where Lina once sat. He seated himself just as she had, pulling his knees up to his chest. He always seemed to be one step behind everyone else...

you're waiting for someone
to push you away

In the back of his mind, Xelloss felt his Mistress call to him. He rose slowly, preparing to teleport to her, but paused when she informed him there was no need. He stood at his full height and frowned thoughtfully as she explained that Lina Inverse was no longer needed, therefor she expected him home withing the day. He relaxed as he felt her presence fade, then a cold, heartless smile spread across his lips.

there's always another
wound to discover

Lina was his. Not Gourry's, nor Ameria's, nor Zelgadiss', only his... and he would make sure of it. With a wicked chuckle, he teleported himself to the makeshift camp, where everyone was seated around a small fire and talking. Xelloss noted with disgust that Gourry and Lina were sitting unusually close together.

there's always something more
you wish he'd say

Grinning, Xelloss created an invisible barrier around the group, one that even the air itself couldn't penatrate. Slowly, he began to draw the air out of the barrier, doing so in such a manner that they all felt as if they were merely getting tired; soon, they retired, drifting off into what they believed to be sleep...

he's everything you want
he's everything you need

He continued to take the oxygen away until there was none left within. Slowly, one by one, breathing and heartbeats stopped. Xelloss smirked, destroying the barrier and leaping from the tree and walking to the lifeless body of the fire-haired sorceress.

he's everything inside of you
that you wish you could be

He stroked her bright hair, smiling. It was all right, she wouldn't be dead long... he could simple have JuuOuSama ressurect her, as a Mazoku, and he'd have his Lina back.

he says all the right things
at exactly the right time

Slowly, his smile faded, as his own words echoed in his mind. Lina would be Mazoku... her friends were all dead, she'd lost her humanity, her love, her joy, her life... she'd lost everything now. How could she be the same? Xelloss gasped as it all hit him head-on; in trying to possess her, he'd forgotten everything that made him love her so.

but he means nothing to you
and you don't know why

He felt his throat tighten painfully, and he cupped her cheek with a gloved hand. Her skin was cold, pale; never again would a gentle blush cross those cheeks. It was no longer the vibrant color it once had. It's warmth had all drained away, leaving it nearly colorless. Xelloss stared at her in disbelief, realizing what he had just done, then let out a howl of pain and grief that echoed through the night.

I am everything you want
I am everything you need

Lina was dead... Lina Inverse, the bandit killer, the dragon spooker... the one woman he truely loved, was dead. Xelloss lifted her into his arms, holding her tight against his chest. He left the camp, and when he was at a good distance, ignited a Blast Flare and incinerated the bodies of Lina's former companions.

I am everything inside of you
that you wish you could be

He strode out of the forest, towards the pcean they were camped so close to. He glanced around, searching for the perfect one, the perfect means to an end.

I say all the right things
at exactly the right time

Finally, he saw what he was looking for. The highest cliff along the coast, that hung directly over the water. Perfect... a classic end, just as she would have wanted. He walked onto the cliff, up to the very edge, and gazed at the horizon. It was painted violet and fire-red, the sun just beginning to peer over the edge of the ocean. Xelloss couldn't help but laugh, shaking his head; this was rather poetic, he had to admit.

but I mean nothing to you
and I don't know why

Taking a final glance at the horizon, at the perfect mingling of violet and red, he smiled down at Lina, giving her a tender kiss on her cold, lifeless lips.

"I love you, Linachan," he whispered, holding her close. A small tear rolled down his cheek, and plapped softly on her cheek. "Goodbye."

Xelloss sealed his own power within himself to be sure he wouldn't back out at the last moment... and with a smile - his first real smile in his entire existance - he stepped off the cliff.

I don't know why...
why
I don't know

Notes

Xelloss: ...and L-sama returns from her coffee break, sees everyone dead, and says 'Oh shit!'

MnoM: *whacks him upside the head* Namagomi. Well, that was lovely! Cheerful, huh? For anyone who DOESN'T know, kurage means jellyfish.

Xelloss: She wanted to try and sound as if she were at least a bit intelligent.

MnoM: *slams him into a closet, and smiles sweetly* And I'm hoping everyone caught all the symbolism I threw in there... you know, the horizon, the going into the light, etc.......you DID catch it, didn't you? I didn't waste my time? Right? Right??

Xelloss: *muffled* Ha ha, don't we feel stupid.

MnoM: ......DIL BRAND!!! *blasts closet, leaving only a smouldering mazoku*

Xelloss: i...tai...x.x *thud*
