navy = flashback
Late that night Lina and the others finally made it to the town just west of Sailune. It was a little farther then Lina had anticipated. In fact they made it there so late the inn was closed for the night.
"HEY! LET US IN!!!" Lina yelled pounding on the door.
"Shut up!"
"Be quite you stupid girl I'm trying to sleep!"
"Why are you making so much noise at this time of the night?! Are you nuts?!?!"
Everyone that lived around the inn was screaming out their windows for Lina to shut up.
"WILL YOU ALL SHUT UP!!!!!!!" Lina screamed back at the townspeople. "LET US IN WE WANT A ROOM!!!!"
Finally the door opened to revealed a very tired and very cross-looking innkeeper. "What the hell are you here bothering me for at this time of the night?!"
"We'd like a few rooms to stay in."
"Then why didn't you come here earlier?!?!"
"We just got into town now."
The innkeeper grumbled under his breath as he motioned for them to follow him. Lina flashed a smile and a victory sign and everyone else sweatdropped.
"You know Lina we could have just camped in the forest outside the woods instead." Zelgadis said in a dry tone.
"Now why the hell would I want to sleep outside when there's inn so close by?" Lina grinned mischievously.
Zelgadis shook his head.
Moments later they were all shown their respected rooms.
The first thing Lina did when she got into her room was lock her door and search around every corner of her room. Since her little experiences with those shadow creatures Lina wasn't taking any chances. She could remember it very clearly.
It was just a few days after Lina had split ways with Gourry.
She had told him the reason why she was going to separate from him but Gourry being
Gourry wasn't going to remember no matter how hard she tried. So Lina gave
up and just said bye and went off.
Lina was very apprehensive about going to see her sister and her
grandmother. Though actually she was looking forward to seeing her
grandmother, it was her sister that she didn't want to see.
Luna Inverse was a very scary individual to all that knows or knows off her.
She was extremely powerful and strong and extremely dangerous. Only crazy
people dared pissed her off.
Lina had arrived in a town in the afternoon and since it was evening she was
heading off the town's inn to turn in for the night.
Inside her room Lina was thinking about the strange dreams that she had been
having the past few nights and she was wondering if she was going to have
another one that night. Lina flopped down on her bed with her eyes closed in
thought. Her brow was creased in worry about what she was going to do. Oh
well I guess I could just ask Luna and Granny to see if they know anything.
I guess I better get some sleep. Lina sighed and opened her eyes to see a
pair of glowing amber eyes staring at her from the ceiling.
"AHHH!!" Lina yelled getting out of the way as the shadowy creature tried to
strike her with some sort of weapon.
"Who the hell are you, and what the hell are you doing in my room?!" Lina
demanded at the intruder trying to get a better look at by holding her
candle in the candle's direction to see if she could better look at it. But
the creature dodged the light and hissed at her but said nothing.
The only thing that Lina could clearly see was the creature's eyes. Damnit!
Eyes aren't supposed to glow like that!
Lina tried attacking the thing was she wasn't able to get any clear strikes
of the thing. She reached for little dagger and waited for the creature to
try and lung at her. When it did Lina stabbed the shadow creature with the
dagger. She heard a blood-curling shriek as the creature recoiled backwards
and crashed into the drawer in Lina's room. The strangest thing about the
scream was that despite how twisted and animal it was it still sounded
human.
Lina casted a light spell and illuminated the whole room, but the creature
was nowhere to been seen, even where the dagger lay on the floor.
Lina shuddered at the thought of that incident. When I checked the dagger it didn't have any blood on it as if the thing I stabbed hadn't really existed. The only proof I had that it had been in my room was the broken drawer that I had to end up paying the damage for.
After proving that there was no person hiding in her room Lina got ready and went to bed. She put her sword by her bed in easy reach just in case.
Elsewhere Amelia hummed to herself as she got herself ready to go to sleep. She was still a bit uneasy about the whole kidnapping incident that had happened even though Gek hadn't really kidnapped her. Then there was the matter of the strange dreams that Amelia had been having that started a few days before Lina came to visit her in Sailune. She didn't know what there were about because she forgot what they were about once she woke up. But every time Amelia woke up from one of those dreams she woke with a strong feeling of impending dread. Oh well I guess I'm just being silly. She got into her bed and blew out her candle. She snuggled in her bed covers and opened her eyes to see another pair staring at her.
Lina woke up to the sound of a very loud scream. What the hell was that?! It sounded like Amelia! Lina rushed out of her room and ran towards the Sailune princess' room. As Lina got there Sylphiel and Zelgadis got there too. There were also other guest in the inn poking their heads out their doors giving Lina, Zelgadis and Sylphiel evil looks.
"What's going on?"
"I don't know I just heard Amelia screaming!"
Lina and Zelgadis bust the door down and they found Amelia cowering in the corner.
"Oh Miss Lina!" Amelia sobbed latching onto the bandit killer.
"Amelia what's wrong?"
"Someone... was in my room...." Amelia said in between sobs.
Lina nodded at Zelgadis and they went to investigate the room. Both Lina and Zelgadis casted light spells and illuminated the whole room. What they found was that nothing was there at all.
"What? Where did it go?" Amelia said in a slight daze. "There was something in here I'm sure!"
"Maybe you were just having a nightmare." Sylphiel suggested to the distressed princess.
"I wasn't dreaming! I saw a pair of eyes staring at me! I swear it! There was something here!" Amelia insisted.
"Well if there something here then where is it now?" Zelgadis pointed out motioning around the room.
"I don't know..." Amelia looked at the ground.
"Amelia how about you come and sleep with me in my room." Sylphiel suggested putting an arm around Amelia.
Amelia nodded and the two of them walked off leaving Zelgadis and Lina alone in Amelia's room.
"So do you think there was something here before?"
"I don't know. Amelia could have just had a nightmare and thought it was real. Or she could have just been seeing things." Zelgadis said dryly. He knew all too well on how Amelia could get worked up over nothing.
"Well she did say that she saw a pair of eyes staring at her. And eyes don't normally glow in the dark."
"Are you saying that it might one of those shadow creatures?" Zelgadis looked at her in disbelief.
"Yes I am. It's possible that it could be one of those creatures that attacked us, but where could it have gone? And why would it come to Amelia's room to only leave?"
"Well it could have realized that it wouldn't do well if we came. So it fled to avoid a confrontation."
"I guess. But that still doesn't explain how it manage to escape like that."
"Well think about it. I was attacked in the Sailune royal baths. There should have been no way that anything could have gotten in there without my noticing. But something did. So if they can get in a place they shouldn't be able to then who's to say that they can escape just as easily?"
"Yeah I guess so. But if they are attacking Amelia then it looks like they might after all of us." Lina frowned. She didn't like it when they were people trying to kill her where she didn't even know who they were or for what reason.
"I know. It looks like we might have to tell them after all."
"But I still don't know if Amelia or Gourry have been having those dreams too. Hey wait speaking of Gourry where the hell is he? Shouldn't he have came here with all of us to see what's wrong with Amelia?"
"Chances are he's still sleeping."
"Grr! That jerk! I can't believe he'd sleep though one of his friends being attacked!" Lina huffed stomping her foot.
"Oh well that's Gourry for you."
"Anyway it's pretty late and I'm sure all the other people at the inn are probably angry with us for making so much noise, so I guess we'd better get back to sleep."
Zelgadis nodded. "Goodnight Lina."
"Goodnight Zel."
An amber-eyed creature glared at Lina and Zelgadis from its viewpoint from outside Amelia's room's window. Damn those two! They had to interfere with my plan. Oh well I guess I'll just have to go after a different target for now. The creature smiled as it went from looking human like and into a shadowlike dark liquidly state and moved it's way about the inn unseen.
It traveled quite fast through the many corridors and rooms of the inn till it found its next target.
It regained its shape but it still remained in a shadow form. It stood in front of the sleeping for of Gourry Gaberieve.
Gourry was snoring very loudly and was completely unaware that there was even someone in his room.
The creature grinned as it unsheathed its blade and got ready to strike the slumbering warrior of light. As it stepped forward the creature felt a large painful shockwave of energy repelling in backwards.
Damnit! He's got one of those infernal swords! Damn that infernal thing for making those damn swords! The creature forced back from the power of the barrier that the sword of light made escaped to outside of the inn. What am I going to do now?! I can't go after the shrine maiden or the princess because they are now both in the same room. And if I go after either of the other two, I'll come out dead. Hmm... I'll have to come back a different time with some others to help me out. The high elder is not going to be pleased with me.
