Forever

He struck her down after hours of combat. With a blow from his staff. She was just as easy to eliminate as the others, even though she was many times more powerful. Xellos took his sweet time with her, for her power was a bonus to the pleasure he got from demolishing her in this small-scale war.

Luna was the last one standing, but even she could not withstand Xellos' blows any longer, weakened by substantial blood loss from her wounds - some of them being very deep.

She lay barely conscious on the ground. She had earlier sent a messenger to Valgarv, to recruit him as much needed help, but he had not yet come. Her hopes that Valgarv would come and rescue her barely succeeding in keeping her alive.

Xellos floated down to the ground and started walking toward the Knight of Ceipheid, she cringed, anticipating great pain. Valgarv appeared before Xellos could get to Luna, Xellos froze in his tracks thinks that this should be interesting to see.

"Valgarv..."

Upon seeing her beaten body Valgarv rushed to Luna and held her in his arms. She looked longingly in his eyes.

"Valgarv...go...from...here...save...yourself..." Luna said realizing she wished she had never sent that messenger.

Valgarv lay Luna back on the ground carefully and stood up to face Xellos who was standing just 5 feet behind him. Xellos' staff was pulsing and Valgarv could see it happening, that scared him a bit, though Valgarv's face did not show it. Xellos sensed this fear in Valgarv and smiled his true smile.

"Are you willing to make an exchange?"

"For the Knight of Ceipheid? It depends."

"My life for hers"

"That will do"

Xellos shot a rod of energy through Valgarv's chest before Valgarv could even blink.

"Valgarv......" Luna crawled over to her lover and this time she held him in her arms. She looked him straight in the eyes.

"You...shouldn't...have done...that."

"Ai...shi......te..ru, Luna..."

"I...love...you too...Valgarv." Valgarv fell limp in her arms and they were all caught in a down pour.

"NOOOO!!!! Valgarv...you can't...leave me..." Luna began to cry.

"He just did my dear, heh." Xellos said in his sweetest voice. His comments were ignored for the pain of losing Valgarv numbed all of Luna's senses. Xellos disappeared, leaving the stone figurines in the rain and, of whom were previously Luna and Valgarv - now caught in their saddening pose.

Luna was never able to warn the others of the Mazoku army's movements and Ceipheid was never reborn - the last ancient dragon was dead, his sacrifice not helping anyone. The statue stayed in that spot until the end of time, through the Mazoku's dominance of the world, through storms, through fires and droughts, and many people went and visited that statue to pray for a loved one.

The legend says that if you pray for one you love at that statue, you and your loved one shall be blessed and protected. That very statue is still there in the same spot, though Valgarv's soul was already out of his body - Luna's soul is still caught in that statue. This is just another monument to the evils in the world, a statue of sadness and trapped soul; never moving - never destroyed - never awakened - never freed - trapped for an eternity of torture.
