"I'm sorry Zel-chan." The mazoku finally answered. "It looks like the game ends here. I can't answer that one."
"Why not?" Zelgadiss asked, more shaken by the refusal than he had expected to be. That was the one secret he had wanted Xellos to share with him more than any other.
"It's just better for some things to be remained unknown."
"But why that?"
"Zelgadiss please, no more questions. The game is over."
"It's not a game." Zelgadiss muttered, staring into the fire. "None of this has ever been a game."
They were both silent for a long moment following the quiet declaration and then finally Xellos sighed. "I know." He said softly, appearing on the other side on the fire. He looked unusually serious, and while Zelgadiss appreciated the change he did find it a little unnerving. "I'm sorry Zel-chan."
"It's all right." He answered, watching the mazoku's face. "But..."
Xellos looked up.
"Without knowing Xellos..."
"I know Zel-chan. I know." They were silent once again as they watched the fire until it finally burned itself out.
