"Then go." He said, wanting to see if the mazoku was really telling the truth. To his surprise a look of hurt passed through Xellos' eyes before the mazoku nodded.

"Very well." And then he was gone.

Zelgadiss blinked. Then he waited, but still there was nothing. This time the mazoku really was gone. That was what he'd been after wasn't it? Yes it was.

So why did he feel so disappointed?

There was no point in even asking that, he knew what the answer was. No matter what he might say, he liked Xellos' company, even welcomed it. And now he'd sent the mazoku away. There was no telling id he would be coming back or not.

He laughed bitterly. What was it they said? You don't know what you have until it's gone? It was funny, he'd spent his entire life repeating that lesson so why didn't he just learn it already? Probably because he was a hard-headed idiot and always had been. He kept making the same mistake over and over. Maybe he should finally pay attention to it so that he could stop suffering like this.

"Xellos?" He whispered, but there was no response. "Xellos, if you can hear me, come back." He said at a more normal level. "I'm sorry."

There was a sound like a sigh and then movement beside him and he turned to discover that Xellos was back. Before he could stop himself he smiled and the mazoku returned it. "Hey there Zel-chan."

It was funny how only a few short minutes had altered his perceptions so incredibly. He returned the mazoku's greeting by wrapping his arms around the priest and holding tightly. Xellos seemed surprised but he was only thrown for a few seconds. Zelgadiss felt Xellos' arms wrap around him in a return embrace and he sighed.

Xellos laughed lightly. "It's all right Zel-chan. It's all right."

Zelgadiss just nodded and held tighter.
