Chapter 10

"Mommy, what's wrong?" The young girl asked as she looked up with her big blue eyes.

"Nothing, Valia-chan. It's nothing." Her mother hesitated. "Go play with Daddy for a bit. I have something to do."

"Kay, Mommy!" The girl's form rippled into a dark gold dragon, and flew off to find her father. Her mother turned to the woman now standing in frontof her.

"You're the Lord of Nightmares, aren't you?"

"Please come back to the Sea of Chaos, Filia." The woman extended her hand. "Life returning to Chaos now shall be reborn in the future. I ask that you help me with a punishment meted out to one Xellos Metallium."

The mother smiled fiercely. Her pink bowed tail thumped against the ground. "Punish the namagomi Mazoku?" Then, she turned to where her daughter had flown off to. "But... what about Valia? And..."

"I shall see that they both be reborn."

Quatre lazily traced designs on Trowa's bare arm. "There's something about that girl, Valia," he murmured. "Something surprisingly familiar."

"Hm." The silent boy gently stroken the blond head. "She seemed to be family the moment we met her."

Quatre nodded. "That's it. She feels like she's..." His blue eyes widen suddenly. "Trowa-koi? If our dreams are past lives, then Duo..."

Trowa's green eyes widened as well. "Duo's Xellos and he's alone with one of the people he killed, Zelgadis."

The two looked at each other, quickly got out of bed, got dressed, and rushed out the door.

Duo mechanically brushed out his hair, struggling to keep his mind blank. An unbidden tear coursed down his face, and he put down the brush, shaking.

I screwed up so much... now Quatre will hate me again... and Liena...

His amethyst eyes widened. "Liena!" he said aloud. "Oh, God, Liena. How the hell can I explain this to HER?!"

Someone took the brush from his shaking hand, and started again on the tangles. Duo twisted to see a frowning Heero. "Don't move around like that," the boy grunted, still working on the hair. "Your hair will tangle worse if you do."

"Heero... do you remember... everything?"

Heero paused in the brushing. "Duo, I remember. If you're wondering if... if I love you... I don't know yet. I care for you, which is all I can say now. However, there's still Liena..." The boy started back in his brushing. "I care for her too. But..."

"It's alright," he whispered. "I... I think I know..." Duo curled his hands into a ball. "Damn it... why is this so hard?"

Suddenly, Heero hugged him from behind. "Shut up, Duo. This is the present. Stop living in the past." The Pilot kissed the tresses in front of him. "No matter what, I'll be here for you. I'll always be your friend, if not more."

"Thank you, Heero," Duo whispered.

That was before someone started to pound on the door.
