"Lina, that doesn't sound very good," Zelgadis said, worried. He gently touched her shoulder, and asked, "Are you sure you want to keep going?"
Lina smiled weakly and shivered in her soaked clothing. "Yeah," she said, sniffling. "We need to find an inn."

She stumbled, and fell hard on her hands. Before she could let loose a string of profanity that would make an ogre blush, he was bending down into her face. "I don't want to take that chance, Lina," Zelgadis said, picking her up. "We are making camp here."
Lina blushed. All alone...? Gourry and Amelia had stopped at the last town, claiming that it would rain. She and Zel had thought that it was just threatening, and that they could make it to the next town without trouble. Naturally, they split up. And now, Lina was wishing they had listened to Amelia and Gourry. Even though it wasn't raining anymore, being in wet clothing is a bitch to health.

Zel held her close, trying to find a spot that wouldn't hurt her if she sat down. Her hair, normally soft and fiery, was matted down, making her look somewhat defenseless.
As he put her down, he realize he didn't want to let her go. "Hey, Zel," Lina sniffled. "What's the holdup?"

"Nothing," Zel whispered, letting her go reluctantly.
Lina sat back, and tried to relearn how to breath. Being that close to Zelgadis... Gods, it was better than she imagined. She felt slightly hot, and hoped it wasn't a fever.

Zel shakily started to set up camp, feeling unsteady from being so close to her. He stopped for a moment, and wondered how it would feel to hold her close to him while they slept...
It would probably feel like being on the wrong end of a Fireball. Lina would not so nicely tell him that she didn't like that. It wasn't worth the chance.

Lina imagined what it would be like, cuddling up to Zelgadis in his sleep. That chest... Wow. Even if she didn't curl up next to him, she would be having wet dreams tonight.
Of course, Zel would probably take it the wrong way, or tell her he didn't feel that way. Gods, that would hurt.

Zel walked over to her, and bent down. "Are you feeling up to walking over to your bedroll?" he asked her, concerned.
In response, Lina started to stand up. Then, she fell quite ungracefully into Zelgadis' arms.

They looked at each other, their faces only inches apart. Lina blushed, and tried to look down. But their eyes locked on each other. Zel leaned forward, his lips mere inches from hers.
Lina waited for the kiss, not even daring to breathe. Then, Zel pulled back.

"I'm sorry, Lina," he said, helping her to her bedroll. "That was..."
"I know," she whispered. Right now, she felt like her heart was breaking into a thousand bits. Lina waited until Zel went to take a bath to change her clothes. Then she smoothed her nightshirt, and sighed.
Zelgadis settled into his bedroll next to her, his back to her. Lina watched his back rise and fall with his breaths, and sighed again. Then she shivered, and sneezed.
"Lina?" his sleep-clogged voice asked.
She got out of her bedroll, and crawled over to his. Then she slipped into it, hugging him close to her. "Can we go to sleep like this?" she whispered. "I... I'm cold."
Zel turned around, and smoothed a lock of errant, damp, red hair. "I was hoping..." his voice trailed off as she smiled at him, and her eyelashes fluttered shut.
He was close to giving her a goodnight kiss when he realized she might take it the wrong way. Instead, he whispered, "Night."
And almost missed her sleepy, "Night..."
