Part 1

"Fire...BALL!" Little Lina jumped up and down excitedly as the dummy she was practicing on went up in flames. "Yes! Another one down!" She glanced over at Gourry, hacking away on one of the other dummies in the yard. "Ne, Gourry!" she called across the yard to the blond. "How's it going so far?"

He smiled in his kawaii way and waved. "It's going great Lina! The sensei says I'm really improving!" Gourry smiled as Lina trotted over.

They were currently enrolled in a special school where they were taught how to use a weapon as well as sorcery. Gourry had a different program from them, seeing as he only used a sword and had no magical talent. The teachers hadn't wanted to let Gourry in because of that, but Lina had convinced them(with a simple but effective fireball).

"Well, I'm stopping for lunch. I feel as if I could eat a horse." Some of the horses in the nearby stable startled and their eyes grew wide, because they knew she could do it.

Gourry's eyes lit up and a smile graced his face. "Ooh, me too! I bet I could eat more than you 'cause your just a little girl. Oof!" Lina's eyebrow twitched as she removed her elbow from Gourry's gut.

"Don't call me a little girl!...Ne, where's Zel and Xelloss?" she asked as she headed to get washed up for lunch. Gourry scratched his head.

"Um, the sensei said that they had to go on the training course in the woods..." he said, carefully remembering what the sensei had said that morning. Lina shrugged.

"something like that...now, race you to the kitchen!" and with that, she sped towards the school.

"Hyahhhh!" Zelgadis yelled as he jumped out of the tree he was in at Xelloss. Xelloss smiled and blocked his slash with the staff he had been carrying around for the past week. He said that some wolves had called to him during the night. And when he had gone out, they had given him it, saying that he would need it.

It was a really impressive thing, and Xelloss showed it off to everyone. It was a staff with a fork at the top end and a beautiful ruby was lodged in the fork. And, despite the fact that Xelloss had just gotten it, it seemed as though he had used it forever.

"That was a good try, Zel!" Xelloss said as he blocked another of Zel's slashes. "We work very well togeth - HEY! You cut my shirt!" Zel smiled.

"That means that you should pay attention to the fight more..." Xelloss smiled, then, as Zel slashed again, he moved behind him and knocked him to the ground with his staff.

"Who should pay attention, Zel? He chuckled as he helped the other boy stand up. "Say, I think it should be about time for lunch, shall we?" Zel nodded.

"We shall."
