I really do not know what it is about yet, just that it popped up in my head. Hopefully more of it will pop up too. I hope you enjoy it.
Lina turned her sad little face towards the sun, her eyes closed, and waited. And waited. And waited. She finally turned to go. He wasn't coming and he probably had never intended to. If possible her face turned even sadder. She had at least wanted to hope that he had told her the truth. But with his reputation, she should have known better. As she walked down the path to the inn where the others were sleeping, she berated herself the whole way. Hadn't he done the same way with Martina? Letting her think that he had some affection for her but had his own reasons. Which she still didn't know.
Her steps dragged, and her heart felt heavy. She should have known better. But she had hoped and that hope had gotten her in trouble a lot of times. But what did you have left if you didn't hope? She thought. Maybe it was time she stopped thinking that. She sighed heavily as she thought of a plan. She didn't want it to happen but it seemed that nothing had gone her way for a long time. She had thought that it was just a slump. But then Xellos had come along to watch over her again and for some reason her world had brightened a little. But only a little. There had been no bandits to fight and no money but what was left and no cure for Zelgadis in sight. Not even a hint. They were all in bad spirits. But not Xellos. She thought that he enjoyed it. She had tried to keep a happy face on for the others but he would soak up the emotions and look at her funny and make comments that said that he knew she wasn't fooling him.
She made it to the inn to see him totally absorbed in his cake and tea. Or so he seemed. He paused in sipping his tea and then continued, ignoring her and not even looking at her. She kept her thoughts and emotions under complete control this time. Not like the last time. She would never do that again, never she thought. She went directly to her room and thought for a while for a plan. They didn't need to know what had happened. They would probably forget her anyway, she thought depressed. They didn't need to know she repeated in her mind.
When she went back down she was smiling again and in what passed for a good mood, but made everyone look at her funny but she ignored them. It would only be a little while longer and then she would be free of the feelings that plagued her. Only a little while longer.
