Curiouser and Curiouser
"I know what to get Zel for his birthday." Just like that. Smack,
boom, out of the blue.
Lina glanced over at Gourry brightly smiling face, "His birthday?"
"So what are you getting him?"
Gourry's face turned very serious, "If I told you, you'd try to get it,
Lina. Then what would I get him?"
"It's your birthday?" Lina asked curiously upon finishing her meal. A
meal that could have fed a town for a year but that was both typical and
irrelevant. Zel glanced up from his studious observation of his coffee.
"Hm?" he asked, eyes a little vacant, as if he were off in some dream
world and had been jolted back to earth by Lina's voice.
"It's your birthday?"
He shrugged, "Next week."
"Why didn't you tell us?"
"Why should I?"
"So we can plan a party, Zelgadis-san," Amelia proclaimed, posing on
the table top.
"Ano ... " was Gourry's brilliant rebuttal.
"No thank you, Amelia." Zel pushed his chair back, pulled up his hood,
and headed out the door.
"But Zelgadis-san - " Too late, he was already gone.
"I don't think he wants a party, Amelia," Lina said, still patting her
Gourry cut in, "He doesn't want that for his birthday."
"Then what does he want?"
"I can't tell you."
"C'mon Zel, just a little hint, a tiny clue!"
"You told Gourry."
"I didn't tell him anything."
"Oh, so you're saying he figured it out on his own?"
He shrugged, "No. I'm just saying I didn't tell him."
"C'mon, just one little hint, I'll figure it out!"
Zel sweatdropped. So did Amelia and Gourry.
Zelgadis dislodged the clinging, ever persistent Lina and quickly shut
the door as soon as he made it into his and Gourry's room,
"I'll figure it out tomorrow!" she exclaimed and, much to Zel's relief,
went off to find an after dinner snack.
"What was that about?" Gourry asked, puzzled.
The chimera glowered at him, "This is all your fault. You just had to
let it slip."
"Well, I didn't mean to - "
"Of course not!" Zel threw his hands up in exasperation.
" - but I didn't want her to get you what I was getting."
So you keep saying ... " His curiosity finally overcame him,
considering this had been going on for the past week, "What are you
"It's your birthday, today, right?"
Zelgadis nodded, waiting.
"Ok, I can give it to you," came the cheerful reply.
"Give me what?"
"This." And with that, Gourry pounced the dully startled chimera and
kissed him full on the lips.
After long moments of staring at the ceiling in a type of dreamy
satisfaction, Zel finally decided to ask a pertinent question, "How did
Gourry turned lazily and gave the chimera a reproving look, "Hey, I
might not know a lot, but I do know so some stuff."
"Well then, in a minute, you can tell me everything you know ... "
"How about I show you now."
Whatever reply Zelgadis would have made was halted by another kiss,
followed by Gourry showing him exactly how much he knew ...
