Chapter Four: Little Gold Dragon

A gold dragon swept over the world. Mountains, lakes, towns, and the earth below it. It's shadow danced along the ground as it flew, alarming everyone as it flew by. The birds flew away quickly, avoiding it's large wings and tail.

The birds flew away into the distance. They perched in the trees singing of the large golden dragon flying in the sky.

Gau heard their songs, translating it perfectly. He gazed to the sky, the dragon flying by like a precious diamond in the sky.

"What's wrong, Gau-san?" Ameria asked him, sitting in the quiet apple tree. Gau shook his head.

"Nothing. Oh! The king wanted you back at Doma at three right? You better hurry back!" He reminded her. Ameria sighed.

"Time sure flies... Because I'm a princess there are so many thing's he needs me to help with... But I owe him and his kingdom for saving me, I guess." She jumped down from the tree smiling happily. "Gau-san, I'll come back as soon as we finish everything, all right?"

Gau looked over at her shining face and blushed.

"Okay, see you!" He began waving to her. She giggled and ran off into the distance. Gau sighed.

"That girl is there and gone like wind... I won't be able to stand it when she leaves back to her home for good..." He lay down in the shade of the tree, closing his eyes and remembering what had been happening in the last few weeks.

Ameria sat in her infirmary bed, tears running down her cheeks. Her light sobs were heard down the nearby halls. He had heard her. All of her injuries were healed now and she was going to be released the next day. What was she crying about?

He wearily entered, shy and unsure. He hadn't spoken to her since she first woke up. What would she think of him? He politely sat down beside her, not saying anything until she could speak between sobs.

She rubbed her eyes, wiping the tears away, shades of gray under her large eyes. Her cheeks were red and she looked weak with sadness.

"Princess, what wrong?" He asked. He blurred in her eyes like an abstract painting. She sniffed. Not human looking...Like Zelgadis...Zelgadis...

"I... My friends... What if they're gone... Really gone?" She asked sadly, small tears still showing from the corners of her eyes. Gau felt sympathy for her. If anything were to happen to any of the Returners, how would he feel?

She unexpectedly threw her arms around him, tear drops falling on his shoulder.

"I'm scared..." She said. " Because you remind me so much of him..."

Gau removed her arms from him and laid her down on the pillow.

"Sleep," he said simply. Ameria sniffed and nodded.

It was that next day. The day princess Ameria was able to stand and walk on her own. Everyone in the castle was overjoyed that the princess of Sailoon was saved by their kingdom. It was an honor. The king offered her up to the throne and she joyfully gave the castle a speech about the healing power of justice and love. Everyone cheered.

He had been leaving back to the Veldt now that he knew she was okay. But it was then that she ran to him at the entrance calling for him to stop. Gau was alarmed that such a proper princess would want anything to do with him.

She had asked if he would take her with him wherever he was going. He was too shy to say no and led her away from the castle.

Along the way she had explained everything about her world and friends and the Mazoku creatures that roamed their Earth. She talked about her kingdom and her father cheerful as ever, as though she were a different person than the one he had met last night.

By the time she had finished talking they were at the Veldt. It was where Gau had grown up and was not shy there. She was full of joy watching the birds and animals all pass by, the beautiful trees dotting the landscape. He had explained and shown her everything there, and they had sat down at the foot of the apple tree.

He asked her about her magic and she told him about the Mazoku's seal around the world. Mazoku was the kind of creature that she fought against, and she had studied magic for a long time and learned much of it from her friends.

"In the name of justice," she had said. Gau couldn't help but laugh at her. She was cute and energetic, and her meanings of fighting amusing.

Gau had told her everything about Final Fantasy: Espers, the wars, the culture, him and his relationship with a group of fighters called "The Returners". Her curiosity grew, and he told her that they fight an evil empire with the power of espers.

Everything... They had talked about everything and Gau had never felt so open and free.

She came here every day after that... To come visit Gau. Even though the king wants her to stay under the safety of the castle. She come here... Gau thought. He sighed. "I feel strange when I around her... What is that feeling?" He asked the birds nearby. They fluffed out their feathers and flew away.

"I want to know what this feeling is..." He paused and lifted his head to the sky. " She doesn't treat me like I'm any different from anyone else... And for that I... She doesn't see Gau as though he beast..." He closed his eyes. "That night..."

Because you remind me so much of him... That was what she had said.

"What she mean?" He asked himself.

A gold light lit up the sunny sky even more. The dragon seemed to fade away in the light, forming what looked like a girl. Her long blonde hair spread out showing the position of her face and the rest of her body.

The light dimmed and all her details could be seen. Deep blue eyes, long blonde hair, a priestess robe over a long pink dress with ruffles. The gold faded away into the deep red jewel on her robe. She was wearing a white hat matching with her robe, forming into two large jewels covering both of her ears.

She gritted her teeth.

"Lina Inverse, where are you?!" She screamed. She remembered testing her power along the shores of Sailoon. She had great powers. That spell, "The Dragon Slave". It was very clever. If she hadn't teleported at that exact moment she would have been a goner. And the damage done to Sailoon was great.

After that she knew she would be able to help her in her quest. She had gone in search for Lina above the ocean to tell her the news. But the skies had gone black and she couldn't see. She was lost within the clouds and they led her to this strange Island. She had been searching there for days but there was no sign of her.

"I'll be in trouble with my people if I don't find her soon!" she said. She lifted her head, seeing nothing but unending sand. She had landed in a desert! Her sense of direction wasn't too good in an unfamiliar place.

She stamped her foot in frustration. She cringed in anger, her dragon tail popping out from her dress.

She noticed her reaction and gasped. She ceased immediately, remembering her effort to fulfill her people's mission and still be sweet and proper at the same time. She grabbed out a tea cup and kettle from her robe and sat down on the hot sand.

She poured herself a cup and politely sipped it carefully. She smiled, already calmed down. The wind blew through the desert, blowing sand all over her. She spit the sand out of her mouth with distaste, standing up and brushing it off herself.

The wind cleared the sand away from the distance revealing a castle. It was large and made of hard stone, standing up high in the sky. Firia lit up with joy. She immediately began teleporting, step by step toward the castle.

She appeared before castle guards. They gasped and fell back on the door to the castle. Their eyes grew large in surprise. She realized their caution because of her odd entrance. She properly clasped her hands together keeping them completely still at her waist. She blushed a bit at their reaction and then covered it up with a bright smile.

"Excuse me, but may I speak with anyone here? I'm terribly lost and need to have some directions of where to go. I'm not even sure where this is... May I speak with the king?" She asked politely, trying to use perfect palace behavior.

A suspicious look passed over the soldiers.

"Everyone knows what this place is, darlin'!" One replied. " You certainly can't speak to the king after just appearing out of nowhere!"

"Must be one of Kefka's spies! He really thinks we'll be tricked into letting her in because she's a very attractive woman! How dumb can he think we are?" Another one said, covering the other.

"Well, our king is dumb enough to fall for it."

Firia sat watching them talk in amusement. It seemed like they forgot about her. Finally she saw one of them walk inside. Maybe to ask the king? She hoped so.

The guards told her to wait there and not to try anything funny. Firia did just as she was told and hoped that the king would understand her problems.

"Your majesty, there's a person outside who would like to speak to you," the soldier said looking across at king Edgar sitting in his throne. He sighed.

"If it's the mayor from South Figaro wanting money again, I'm not here," he answered. The soldier shook his head.

"No, no! It's a cute girl," he corrected. Edgar's face brightened.

"Oh, well that's different!" He jumped down from his throne and walked to the entrance with the guard by his side. He walked outside gazing at the young girl standing attentively by soldiers.

Edgar's face lit up with joy seeing the wondrous beauty that had been waiting for him. He approached her politely and took her hand.

"I'm king Edgar Figaro, please come in," he offered her his hand. She blushed at the King's politeness and took it as he escorted her inside. The soldiers still watched her suspiciously as they saw them walk down the halls.

Firia could not believe that the king could be so handsome and proper and have such rude guards. And he had only seen her and allowed her to enter with no questions. She was being escorted down a kingdom's floors by the king himself. She began to blush again.

He led her to the main banquet room where he offered her the chair beside him. She politely sat down, as the chancellor, matron, and other high class subjects also seated themselves. There was complete quiet and Edgar opened his mouth ready to begin when the door loudly burst open.

A muscular blonde entered energetically breaking the royal silence.

"Hey, bro! What's up?!" He asked loudly. Edgar clinched in anger.

"The soldiers were supposed to tell everyone about this meeting, you're late! As usual!" He scolded his younger brother. A sweat drop fell down Sabin's face.

"Well, I was... Uh... Doing that paper work you asked me to!" He said in weary voice. He quickly seated himself near Firia. She couldn't believe the two could be related. The king was so handsome and proper while his brother looked so dumb, reckless, unattractive, and impolite. She sighed.

Edgar turned to her.

"What do you need of our kingdom, fair maiden?" He asked. She blushed. She didn't want to embarrass herself in front of the king. She would have to soup up some kind of lie to throw him off.

"I come from the New World to the west. I heard that a new island had been discovered in the east and I was traveling over there to do some studies. But my boat was lost and I found myself here... May I ask where I am?" She asked. Edgar smiled.

"Your in luck. This is the island Final Fantasy! This is my kingdom Figaro. It's not in a very convenient place, but it's a nice kingdom," he explained. "You're welcome to stay here as long as long as you like. We would gladly let you stay here," he offered.

Firia shivered. She didn't expect this to really be Final Fantasy. Now her lie just ruined her chance to get supplies and be on her way to find Lina. She sighed. Now she was really in trouble. She couldn't just say no to royalty. Then again staying with the king might not be so bad.

She blushed.

"Why yes your highness. I'd love to stay. I really appreciate it, you have my eternal gratitude," she said a soft voice. Edgar smiled.

"Well, then let me show you to your room. The rest of you can get back to work," he said. Everyone got up attentively. Sabin sighed as he exited the room.

"A babe like that stuck in here with big bro, now that's scary! I had better warn her when I get the chance!" he said to himself, walking back up to his room.

The king showed her to her room which was quite fancy. She loved being in such a lovely room. He left her to settle in and she immediately fell asleep on the large, soft bed. She had been tired from the flying and searching and she couldn't stop thinking about her mission. What would her people think if they found out she was wasting her time in this kingdom instead of searching for Lina?

Lina would have to wait. It wouldn't be so bad. The king was very kind and handsome too. Everything would be okay.

"I spy with my little eye something blue," Kurabos said to Jirasu. Jirasu scratched his head and looked around them.

"Um... Boss' hair?" He asked. Kurabos shook his head.

"I meant the water," he replied. Valgarb threw the blankets up off himself.

"Some people are trying to sleep here!" He screamed. Kurabos pointed at Jirasu.

"He started it!" He accused. Jirasu gasped.

"I just wanted to see if you knew what blue thing I was spying, and you guessed the water which was right," he explained. Valgarb clinched in anger.

"What else is out here but water!?" He asked. Kurabos scratched his head.

"I don't know... But anyway this game just shows I'm better at spying things than Jirasu!" He said joyfully. Jirasu gasped and began pulling a bomb out from his cape.

Valgarb shook his finger.

"We still have a bet! You haven't won me yet!" He corrected. Jirasu started to cry.

"We played cards all afternoon and I never won!" He continued to cry. Valgarb threw his pillow over his head trying to block out the noise.

Firia slept through the whole night. She even slept through dinner when Edgar came in to get her. She awoke the next morning by noises outside. It was early and she felt refreshed. She opened her window and saw the king's brother outside practicing martial arts attacks.

She smiled, and rushed outside to meet him. He was really practicing hard. Punching down wooden poles in the ground with no effort and showing great skill in punching and kicking.

He stopped to rest, sweat drops pouring down his face. Firia approached him. He looked up at her and smiled.

"Well, well, if it isn't bro's bride to be!" He said cheerfully. Firia looked confused.

"What do you mean?" She asked. He shook his head.

"Nothin'!" He offered her his hand. "I'm Sabin, Edgar's brother!" He said. She wearily took his hand in hers.

"Firia," she said politely. He let go and she noticed sweat from his hand on hers. She wiped it on her robe with distaste. He turned away and began practicing again, forgetting her presence. She walked back to his side, waving her hand in front of his face to remind him she was there.

"What?" He asked. She grunted at his rudeness. She calmed herself, and brushed her bangs away from her face.

"Try your hand against me?" She asked. He laughed. She frowned at his reaction. Wasn't he taking her seriously?

"Okay, whatever you want!" He said between laughs. "Don't try to hurt yourself to badly!" He continued. Her face turned bright red with frustration. She flipped up her dress. Sabin immediately stopping his laughing and staring. She screamed and pulled her mace off her garter.

His eyes grew wide as she swung it at him, tossing him up the castle walls. He fell at her feet, a huge lump on his forehand. Firia dropped her mace on top of him, pulling both her hands to her face as she began to cry with embarrassment.

Sabin clinched in pain. He opened his squinting eyes a bit, then noticed that what he was looking up at was Firia's own panties.

"Firia?" He asked. She sobbed.

"What?" She asked sadly.

"Pink panties don't suit you," he continued. She screamed ready to pick up her mace for another blow. She had it right to his head then-

"And that dragon tail doesn't suit you either... Dragon tail!!" He cried realizing what he saw was true.

Firia stopped in her tracks then fell to her feet and began to cry.

"I'm sorry! I just couldn't tell the king the truth! I'm really a dragon maiden! I admit it! Now you'll all throw me out of your kingdom and I'll never see the king again!" She blurted out. Sabin looked confused, then snapped his finger.

"I'm the only one who knows! If you do something for me I'll keep it a secret!" He said, cheerfully remembering how he could use this to his advantage, although he didn't completely understand what she was or why she was so upset.

She lifted her head from the ground. A smile began to form.

"Really? Oh, thank you!" She jumped up with joy, knowing she still had a chance. Sabin offered her his hand and she shook it happily.

"Boom, boom!!" Sabin sat in his office pushing two toy tanks together. He laughed and pulled out another tank. He lit it and watched it drive into the other two, burning them to a crisp. He laughed again and continued to light tanks.

He heard to door opening and quickly hid them under his desk. Edgar entered with an angry look on his face.

"Sabin..." He said in an annoyed voice. Sabin just smiled innocently.

"Yes?" He said. Edgar clinched in anger.

"How dumb to you think I am?!" He pulled out a sheet of paper from his pocket. "It's obvious you're making other people do your paper work again!" He slammed it down on the desk. "You have a whole new line of battle tactics I want you to do and if I find out that you forced someone else to do it I'm going to take away your water gun collection!" He cried. Sabin dropped to ground at Edgar's knees.

"Anything but that! I'll do it!" Sabin said in a sad voice.

Sabin ran into Firia's room with an alarmed look on his face.

"Firia! They knew it wasn't me who was doing the paper work!" He cried. Firia gasped.

"How did they find out?!" She asked.

"Your handwriting and vocabulary is too advanced!" He said holding up her work.

"Aren't we on Final Fantasy yet?!" Valgarb sighed in frustration, gazing over at his two dense companions. "I can't take much more of this! Damn you Armeisu! Just wait until I get back! I'm going to make you pay for this hell!"
