Chapter 1: Frightening Past

"How dare you!!" The woman shouted. "Here you come to take my child away from me!! NO! I won't let you!!" The woman picked up her toddler from his crib. The tall dark figure just stood still.

"No matter how hard you tried, you still can't protect the child forever. I shall claim the child when ever I pleased," The dark figure said. The woman hugged her toddler as if to never let go.

"Never!!" She cried. "This is my child!!"

"But it is mine as well," the dark figure said calmly.

"How can you claim to be the father?!! You've never even touched my child!! You never took care of the baby!! You were the father that was not to be!!! " She yelled furiously. She got a hold of a small vase and threw it at him. Crash! Went the vase as it hits the wall barely missing him. He grinned. "I hate you!!!!" She yelled even louder in anger and hatred.

"I think I'd better make it clearer to you, I want the child!" He replied. She narrowed her eyes as she holds her child tightly.

"Never!! Go back to your black magic and pray you may never come back!!!! " She screamed.

"I'll see to it. But first hand me the child."

"NO!!" She shouted. The toddler who was vaguely confused over Mother fighting with this man. "Don't worry, sweetheart. Everything's just fine. Mommy's here to protect you," She said confronting the innocent child. The child nodded.

"Let me make this clear," He said as he grabbed her wrist. She held on to her child on the other hand. He looked straight into her eyes. "I want the - "

She spat into his eyes cutting him off. He let go of her and cursed her while rubbing his eyes. She took the child and headed for the door. Now he was very mad. The door slammed shut right in front of her face. She tried to twist the doorknob. No reply. She kicked the door. Nothing. She banged on the door calling her servants. No reply. She stepped back a little and released a fireball to destroy the door. Still no avail. She doesn't' dare to use her greatest black magic as she was afraid it would harm the child, her child, as well.

At last, tired, she stood against the door while he came slowly towards her. She hugged her toddler tightly.

"Take me, instead. Please don't take him! I'll go back with you! Just leave him alone! I'll do the black spell with you," She pleaded. The toddler began to cry.

"Hand me the child,"

"Please..." She said crying, following the rhythm of her child cries.(?).

"Hand me the child," he repeated. She tightens her hold on her toddler. In the corner of her eyes, she saw something shiny. She saw a mighty sword.

"If you would just follow my instructions, nobody will ever get hurt," he continued. She quietly summoned the sword with her spell to come forward to her.

"Do you know how hard it is to find you?" He babbled on. The sword came closer and closer. "You should know better to play with fire,"

"I hate you so much!!!!" She yelled. The sword was finally in her hands. She pushed her child away to attack the dark figure. As the two of them fought, blood came dripping down. Drip..drip..drip.. went the blood as the sword fell onto the floor with a clang. The sword spilled blood on the marble floor. She narrowed her eyes toward the man. The woman took a last look at her frightened child and collapsed on the figure's lap.

"I hate you. May you live forever in darkness to the world..., " She cursed weakly. "See you in hell.." She inhaled her last breath. He stared at her lifeless figure before he put her down. He brushed her dark hair aside to take one last look at her beautiful face. The toddler cried and cried, not knowing what happened. The figure walked over the youngster and took the hand.

"What happened to mommy?" He cried. "You've done something to her!!"

"Ssshhh.... Mommy's fine.. mommy's asleep... " He said softly as he guided the child's hand to their unknown future.

The 10-year-old gasped. "Mommy!! Mommy!!" She cried out. Her little sister only looked at her mother's body with no expression on the face. They opened the door to find their mother on the floor, in a pool of blood. The elder sister knew her mother was gone forever. But what about her 3 year old sister? She had known nothing yet. The servants came rushing in horrified by the sight. It was chaos.

"Where's daddy?!!!" the elder sister cried out. No one knew what to say. Her daddy had gone on a diplomatic mission far away. And strangely, no one heard anything that came from the room which their beloved queen was killed, murdered and her brother, kidnapped.

The elder girl tightens her grasp on her little sister's hand. She hugged her sister crying. Soon, her little sister cried too. "I...I.. want ..to..to..know what hap..pened to mommy..and..." Her little sister said.

The elder one, could not bear to tell her. "Mommy.. has..." She trailed off.

"..gone.. to.."

"...heaven.."

The little sister bawled. For she knew her mother wasn't coming back. Never.

6 years later....

She can't stand it. For years she tried to find the murderer and the kidnapper. 6 Years. With no avail. Her father said to leave it alone, let he find the bastard. But he never succeeded. Her father continued with his life in pain. She knew how much her father has suffered.

"I don't care! I'm old enough to follow you!! I'll fight the Mufiers to my last breath!!"

"NO! I won't let you! You could get hurt!!" Her father said. "A war is no place for little girls,"

"You said anyone could fight for justice!!" She shot back. "What kind of justice is this?!!"

"The answer is still no!"

"I hate you!!" She cried before slamming the door shut.

She is 16 now. She wondered what life would be if her mother was still here. She still couldn't forget the sight. The horrible sight. The pool of blood. The lifeless body. The sword.

Her father is so over-protective after her mother died. He wouldn't let her go anywhere. She doesn't see anymore justice in this world. And she was sick living in this prison. She was sick living with the limits set by her father. Most of all she was sick not doing what she craves most. Revenge.

She tightened the belt on her waist. She shoved the sword in her belt. She took the shoulder pad and wore it as she flings the cape behind. She looked at her little sister in bed, sleeping soundly. Not wanting to wake her sister up, she took out her royal ring and placed it on her sister's pillow. She stroked her hair. "You shall be the next queen." She kissed her sister's forehead. She tiptoed to the window edge, a rope hanging from her room to the lower ground of the castle.

She took out the note she had written earlier and placed it on her desk. She grabbed on the rope and slides her way down. She landed gracefully as she hops off away from Saillune and to another unknown future.

5 years later...

Prince Philionel sighed as he read the note. 5 years and not a word from Gracia. 11 years and not a word from 'his' son. 11 years his queen had gone. 11 years he had tried to deal with the pain. 11 years he had tried to give his daughters what they need. Now he had only one child. One. His precious daughter, Amelia. He had kept the letter way from her. Particularly because he doesn't want her to know about Edward. He doesn't want her to grieve in pain if she found out that she had two long lost family. Let her know only about Gracia. Amelia was 14 now. He learn from his mistakes too never to be too protective as he had done to Gracia. So far, Amelia had questioned little about her mother & Gracia and no questions about Edward. He hoped he had taught Amelia well. He doesn't want to lose another loved ones.

A year later...

Amelia woke up with a start. "Mother..." she sobbed quietly. She had the dream again. The dream where her mother laid on the floor in a pool of blood a sword beside her, wet with her blood. But this time, she saw a figure. No, two figures. One was pulling the smaller figure away. The smaller figure looked vaguely familiar, only she can't remember it.

"I miss you..." She prayed wiping away her tears. She walked towards her windowsill and gazed to her kingdom below. Saillune. "I wonder where's Gracia right now," She took a deep breath.

"I wonder what Lina, Gourry, and Zelgadiss are doing..." she sighed. It has been a year since they have gone their separated ways. Amelia sometimes visit Firia at her pottery shop. But she misses the quartet. She misses having the adventure. She misses Lina, the person she looked up too. She misses Gourry, who has a jellyfish brain but still a nice guy. She misses Zelgadiss, she wondered if he'd found his cure. She wondered if he had missed the quartet too. She went into the bathroom and soak herself in the tub full of bubbles and foam prepared by her maids.

"I need new adventure," She said to herself as she played with the foams.

"Morning, father," Amelia greeted as she kissed Prince Philionel on the cheek.

"Morning, Amelia," He greeted. Amelia sat down from across the table. "You look tense."

"I had the nightmare again," Amelia replied as she chomped down her bacon and eggs. He knew very well his daughter often get this nightmares about her mother.

"But this nightmare, I saw two dark figures," she continued. Prince Philionel stopped eating for a moment. "One was a tall dark one. And the smaller figure looked vaguely familiar," Prince Philionel choked. "Are you alright, father?" Amelia asked worried. Prince Philionel drank his juice.

"Yes, I'm fine," He answered quickly.

"Now you look tense," Amelia pointed out.

"I'm quite alright,"

"Father? May I have your permission to go out to another adventure? " Amelia asked. Prince Philionel looked thoughtful for a moment. But then he pushed his chair back and stood up. He took Amelia's hand and led her to the window edge of the castle.

"Amelia, one day this whole Saillune shall be yours to rule. You have to know the responsibilities as a princess for your kingdom. Someday you'll take my place as king."

"Queen," she corrected.

"Queen." He smiled. He looked into her eyes and saw Gracia, shouting how much she wanted to go out, he saw 'his' 7 year old son, he saw his wife, smiling. How he missed them so much. He took a deep breath. "Okay, you may go, but promise to come back before dusk."

"Father!" Amelia cried out.

"Okay, okay, promise to come home," He said. Amelia nodded.

"I promise,"

"Good, now would you please take the book on my table for me?"

"Yes, father," Amelia obeyed as she hopped off her chair gleefully walking to Prince Philionel's room. She went out her room walking happily, greeting every servants and guards when she passed them. . She walked along the corridors of the Ballroom, past the library, Prince Philionel's room. She saw the big, thick book on the table.

"1001 ways to rule a kingdom?" Amelia read the gold plated title aloud. She laughed. "Weird." She took the book from the table and something slipped down onto the floor. It was an old, yellowish envelope. Amelia bent down to pick it up. 'Father'. Read the address. Amelia feel so tempted to open the envelope, curious to know what's inside. Besides, she's the only child Prince Philionel has. And she didn't write any letter entitled 'Father'. Amelia bit her upper lip, trying to make the right decision. Automatically her fingers started opening the envelope and took out the contents inside. A worn out letter. Amelia's eyes widen.

Dearest father,

I regret to inform you that I'm out to find mom's murderer and Edward's kidnapper. Don't worry about me, I'll be just fine. I am not sorry for doing this. You never let me search for the villain, so I proceeded to take the matter into my own hands. I shall return after I have our revenge. Take care of Amelia for me. Tell her I love her. I have given her the royal ring. May she rule Saillune in harmony.

Your princess, With love,
Gracia

Gracia... Amelia thought about her sister. But only one question lingered her mind. Who is Edward?

Amelia walked through her kingdom watching her royal subjects carry on with their lives. She strolled trough the market place, along the shop lots, until she reached the border of Saillune. She reached into her belt and took out the worn out letter she had 'stolen'. "Gracia.. I'll find you," She said determinedly.

She turned back to look at her castle and head off to an unknown journey.
