It was a beautiful day. The sun sparkled in a sky unmarred by clouds. The wind blew a cool off of the mountains into the valley. The valley was nestled within two mountains ranges. The only means of passage through the mountains lay through this valley. A road led from one pass to the other. Midway in the valley, snuggled up against a lake, lay a village. Rather, The remains of a village lay snuggled up against a lake.
It was in the midst of being destroyed by a demon and the two heroes fighting it.
"I can't believe that you actually broke that seal, Lina," Gourry called out as he dodged a blast from the demon, "It plainly said, do not open, the demon, Mxthjad, has been sealed inside."
"Hey, how did I know that the demon really was bound in there? I've put worse warnings on my dirty laundry bag,"
Lina Inverse yelled back at him.
The demon, Mxthjad, laughed as it looked at the pitiful humans who were trying to send it back to hell. As demons go, it was quite handsome. It had the body of a male lion. Bony spikes protruded from the tuft of hair at the end of its tail. Where its neck should be, the torso of a woman was. The torso had six breasts. Eight octopus like tentacles replaced its arms. Lastly, its head was inverted. The eyes were below its nose and mouth. Its' mouth was worm-like and was placed on the top of the head. Shark-like teeth studded the ring of the mouth. Making matters worse, it stood ten meters tall.
It thought to itself. Some heroes, a blond swordsman and a little girl who claimed to be a sorceress. Looking over the devastation it had caused, it said, "Give up now and I will kill you quickly. You are no more than fleas to me. Fight me and I will eat you while you still live."
"Big deal! I defeated Shabranigdo. I can defeat you!" Lina yelled back at Mxthjad. "Gourry, keep it busy while I cast my spell."
"Okay, just let me know when to duck, " Gourry said. He then lit his light blade and ran to the attack.
As he fought the demon, he heard Lina shout, "Dragon Slave!" He ducked for cover knowing what would happen next.
He waited for the explosion. It didn't come. Looking up, he saw the demon finish sucking the energy from the spell into itself. "Thanks, girl, I needed that." It growled as it grew to 18 meters tall.
"Uh oh," Lina said stunned.
‘UH OH?? What do you mean UH OH!" Gourry demanded as he sprang to the rear of Mxthjad and struck its tail off.
"ARRGHH!!! That hurt, you little worm," Mxthjad yelled as he turned towards Gourry.
"Um, Lina, another spell would be nice now, don't you think?" Gourry ran away from Lina. "I have its attention."
Lina began a second incantation. I can't make any mistake on this one. If I do, Mxthjad will be a pleasant memory. I've done this before. Take your time. She thought to herself as she finished the incantation. "...GIGA SLAVE!"
Gourry heard her end the incantation. Once again, he ducked for cover. He definitely didn't want to caught in the backwash of this spell. This was the spell that brought down Shabranigdo. He covered his ears and opened his mouth in preparation for the concussion of sound.
Nothing.
"DAMN!" Lina yelled as Mxthjad ate her spells energy again.
"Thanks again, little girl. Keep this up and I'll let you live." Mxthjad chuckled as he grew to forty meters in height.
"Do you have a spell that will hurt him?" Gourry asked as he rolled away from several tentacles. He then jumped up and sliced at a tentacle with his light sword. As the sword touched the tentacle, its energy was extinguished. The demon grew to 45 meters tall.
"Lina, I think we're in trouble."
"I've got one more spell to try, keep it busy!"
"HOW!!!"
"Improvise!" Lina yelled and then began her next incantation.
Gourry, in desperation, grabbed Mxthjad's right rear leg and began climbing. Mxthjad kicked him off. As he flew threw the air, he heard, "GIGA..." Then he slammed into a wall and fell unconscious.
"Am I still alive?" groaned Gourry a short time later as he woke up.
"Yep! The demon is gone. My last spell worked," Lina said proudly.
Gourry heard a strange beeping. "What is that noise?" he asked.
Lina big-sweated as she pulled out a round object on a chain and began tapping on it until the beeping went away.
"There is a side effect to the spell I cast. The spell always works. It just that you have to work to keep it active. I didn't really kill the demon. I didn't even banish it."
"Well, what happened to it?" Gourry asked again.
"Well, the spell I cast was the Giga Pet spell. It traps whatever it is cast against into a locket. To keep the thing trapped in the locket, you have to tend it whenever it beeps at you." Lina then smiled brightly at Gourry, "Here I'll trade you Giga Pet Mxthjad for your light sword."
"No."
"Please!"
"No."
Okay, I hope you like this one. Someone has probably already done this joke. What the hey, I haven't seen it. I watched the first three tapes of "The Slayers". This idea popped into my head.
