navy = flashback
Lina fought against Xellos' grip as he grabbed her from her room.
"Come no, you don't want to be late to the execution of your friend now do you?"
"No!" Lina screamed as she fought against Xellos. The violet haired Mazuko laughed darkly and jerked Lina against him, Lina looked at him terrified. Xellos smiled and kissed Lina. "Sleep." He whispered and he caught the girl as she sagged. Xellos chuckled and phazed out, this would be grand.
Zel was swiftly becoming worried.
"Lina where are you?" he whispered as he ran his hands through his indigo colored hair.
"Hiya Handsome." Zelgadis looked up and saw Amelia standing there with a grin on her face.
"Have you found anything?" Zel asked and Amelia frowned.
"No I'm sorry." Amelia whispered and Zel turned his gaze back to the map on the wall.
"Have you seen Gourry?"
"Yes, he and Sylphial are searching the western quarter of the city." Amelia walked over to Zelgadis and laid her hand on his arm. "Zel, you are going to have to face the facts, she's gone."
"Shut up!" Zel snarled. "And get your hands off me! I have told you time and time again Amelia, I am not interested!" Zelgadis glared at Amelia and the young warrior queen flinched and backed away. "Go away, unless you have news on Lina, I don't want to see you." Amelia looked at Zel one last time and walked out of the building. Amelia was walked between two buildings when someone stopped her.
"Do you see what I mean?" Amelia nodded.
"Yes I do, you're right Rezo he does love her." Amelia stared into the middle distance.
"Amelia... I'm sorry." Rezo murmured as he looked at the young queen.
"I don't mind Rezo, actually, thank you for telling me." Amelia smiled up at the tall priest.
"I just want Zelgadis to be happy." Rezo murmured as he started to walk away.
"And I wouldn't make him happy?" Amelia growled as he grabbed Rezo's sleeve.
"No it's just that Zelgadis need a woman that will break him of his habit of flirting." Amelia nodded and looked at Rezo.
"I see, so you don't think I am good enough for him?" Barely concealed hurt.
"No of course not." Rezo said as he looked down at Amelia with a odd glint in his violet eyes. "I think you are a very nice young woman." Amelia glanced up at Rezo and saw an odd smiled one his face
"What?" Amelia asked suspicious
"Nothing, you just remind me of someone there for a second." Pain flashed in Rezo's eyes. "My wife..."
"Oh, what happened to her?" Amelia asked.
"She died, the Mazuko killed her." Rezo's face clouded over with long remembered pain and hatred. "That is the curse of being a magick user, we live for a long time, and so does our memories." Amelia reached out and touched Rezo's forearm.
"I'm sorry." Amelia looked down. "My mother and father were killed by the Mazuko as well." Amelia's large dark blue eyes hardened. "And I won't rest until I see that they are defeated." Rezo shook his head sadly.
"Such hatred in one so young, is pains me to see that look in your eyes my dear."
"Why?"
"They are the eyes one who is at least twice your age and seen more of life then is healthy." Rezo looked away distant. "One who has seen life as it truly is."
"You wife, you are thinking about her aren't you?
"Yes, what you said triggered an old memory of mine." "Oh what?" Amelia grinned. "You tell me a tale and I'll by you an ale." Rezo looked at Amelia with a weird look on his face and Amelia grinned. "Sorry it's an old saying amongst my people." Rezo nodded.
"Very well." He and Amelia walked to the a small tavern near the camp called the Silver Stag and sat down at a table in the back of the taproom. "Where to start?" Rezo murmured as he sipped his ale.
"The beginning usually works best." Rezo chuckled.
"Okay, her name was Maisha, but everyone called her Mai. She was beautiful, she has fiery chestnut hair and soft blue eyes." Rezo smiled an he could see Mai before him once again. "And she had a temper, such a temper, yet there was a serenity and confidence that seemed to radiate from her. She was a strong woman, hated to admit that she needed anything, and stubborn as the day is long." Rezo laughed. "Used to drive me crazy, Zelgadis takes after her a lot. In his temperament, although he has a better reign on his temper the Mai did. And she was smart, and loved to read. She read the all the books at the library in our village. Admittedly it was a small library but still, that was a lot of books."
"She sounds like she was a very complex person, fiery and proud on one hand, and intelligent and serene on the other." Amelia murmured as she stared at Rezo. She has never seen such a look on his face, he seemed almost elated and happy.
He really is handsome. Amelia thought to herself. Whoa where did that thought come from?
"Yes she was, I don't think I ever completely figured her out. Well anyway, when you said that I didn't think you were good enough for Zelgadis, it reminded me of the day I proposed to her.
Rezo smiled as he walked over the last hill. He was
almost home, soon he could see Mai again, he had
missed her sorely. Perhaps more then he should have.
You're acting like a lovesick pup Rezo. he mentally
chastised himself. Mai is your girlfriend, not your
wife. Rezo frowned. He was worried that he was
getting too close to Mai, but he couldn't help it.
"Rezo!" Rezo looked up in timed to see Mai hug him.
"You are a evil person Rezo Akoushi!"
"What'd I do?" Rezo asked.
"What did I do?" You ask." Mai glared up at Rezo. "You
didn't write, was it so hard to pick up a pen?" Mai's
blue eyes shined despite her words. "See if I let you
out of my sight for another six months." Mai grinned
and kissed Rezo. "Miss me?"
"Ummmm, maybe." Rezo thought about it. "What was your
name again?" Mai squealed with frustration.
"Hmph don't remember me huh? I'm not good enough for
you huh?" Mai turned around and walked off in a huff.
Rezo chuckled and caught up with her.
"Gai... Tai.... Sai!" Mai glared at Rezo and he grinned.
"I don't like you go away." Rezo sighed dramatically
and made up his mind.
"I need to know your so I can give you this." Rezo
held out a beautiful bracelet made out of thinly
pounded gold and shaped like a horse, Mai's favorite
animal.
"Rezo...?" Mai whispered as she took the bracelet. "This
is a promise band. [1]" Mai looked up into Rezo's
violet eyes.
"Look Kai..." Rezo grinned. "Enough joking around." Rezo
cupped Mai's face between his hand and laid his
forehead against hers and stared down into her soft
blue eyes. "Mai, I love you and I want to marry you."
Mai's eyes filled with tears of joy. "Well?" Rezo felt
uneasy, especially by the look Mai was giving him.
"Well I don't think I can marry a man who can't
remember my name.
"Mai..."
"And such a evil man who won't even write to me."
"What I'm not good enough for you?" Rezo asked
slightly panicked.
"But, luckily I am madly in love with you, and how
could I ever resist a offer like this." Mai laughed at
the look of shock and amusement on Rezo's face.
"Fooled ya!" Mai laughed as she slipped her promise
band on her arm.
"You... you tricked me you little Vixen!" Rezo stuttered
as he hugged Mai. "Love you Mai." Rezo whispered in
Mai's ear.
"Love you too." Mai murmured.
Rezo shook his head.
"Sorry, I got wrapped up in the past." Rezo looked over at Amelia.
"That has got to be one of the most romantic things I have ever heard." Amelia whispered. "I am deeply moved, wow, I have never felt like this before." Amelia looked over at Rezo. "That was so sweet." Amelia started grinning like a idiot. "I wish I could find a guy like that one day." Rezo felt his heart clench and he patted Amelia's hand.
"I'm sure you will someday." Rezo smiled slightly at the young queen.
"Nah, guys like that don't exist anymore, they are just a fairy tale my mother used to tell me." Amelia frowned and her usual demeanor was back again. Amelia stood up and smiled down at Rezo. "Thank you for the tale Rezo." The warrior priest nodded and Amelia laid her hand on his shoulder. "Next time I'll tell you one. And perhaps I will find a man like that someday." Amelia left the Stag leaving Rezo there.
"I'm right here." Rezo murmured as he stared down into his mug.
"Rezo what are you doing?" he asked himself. "Don't you dare fall in love again, don't you remember what happened last time?" Rezo scowled and his eyes darkened. "Keep that in mind." Rezo gulped down the rest of his ale and left the tavern as well. He had just walked outside when the first flaming arrow flew past his head.
"We're under attack!" He roared as he drew his sword just as a wave of Mazuko rushed at them under the cover of volley after volley of arrows. Rezo raced to the main building of the camp.
"Zelgadis!" Zel looked up as he fastened his on his armor.
"Grandfather you shouldn't be here." Zel whispered.
"Don't give me that my boy!" Rezo growled and Zelgadis nodded.
"Of course." Zel murmured. "We will need you magick." Zel frowned and buckled his sword at his side. "Today is a good day to die." [2]
"No Zel, today is a good day to live." Rezo murmured as he and his grandson swiftly hugged. "Don't die, you hear me? Don't die." Pride shone in Rezo's eyes. Pride for Zelgadis. "You have done a good job with these people but they need you."
"Yes sir." Zelgadis whispered as he and his grandfather split up. Rezo blasted many Mazuko out of his path but there was just too many. He saw Amelia to fight all a group of Mazuko, they had surrounded her and we toying with her, drinking in her fear and pain. Rezo snarled and fought his way to her. He saw her fall as a arrow embed itself in high in her chest.
"Amelia!" Rezo shouted as he felt his blood run cold. "Diem Wind!" Rezo blasted the Mazuko out of his way as he ran over to the fallen queen. Rezo knelt down next to and began pulled the arrow from her chest. Amelia was very lucky in the fact that the arrow had embedded itself into the fleshy part between a person's collarbone and shoulder. It has missed all her vital all her vital organs, all he needed to do was stop the bleeding. Rezo looked around and saw that most of the Slayers were dead and dying, all around him were Mazuko coated in the bright red blood of humans. Rezo snarled as he stood up and slammed the tip of his sword into the ground. "MEGA BRAND!!!" He screamed and the ground around him seemed to erupt tossing and flaying he Mazuko alive. Rezo closed his eyes against the flying dust and knelt down next to Amelia. He channeled most of his power into Recovery, and waited.
"Come on Amelia." Rezo whispered and his sharp hear saved his life as a Mazuko's sword sliced the place where his head ha been a split second before. Rezo ran the Mazuko with his sword and dispatched another one. And another one, but he was swiftly outnumbered.
"Fireball!" Rezo cried as he tried to clear a path to escape. He saw a Mazuko kneel over Amelia and he leapt at it, but his inattention was enough for another red headed Mazuko to knock him out with a blow to the head.
"Don't kill them." Garv ordered as he looked down at the human who had valiantly fought against overwhelming odds. "I want them both left unharmed."
The other Mazuko looked at Garv unsure. "Obey me!" the Mazuko shrank away from Garv. Rezo groaned and reached his arm blindly out for Amelia.
Zelgadis fought bravely but seeing his people slaughtered broke his heart. The Slayers fought bravely but they were now match for the Mazuko army.
"Zel!" Lina screamed when she saw her friend from across the battlefield. Xellos laughed in delight as the human were slaughtered.
"Please don't kill them!?" Lina cried as she tugged on Xellos' arm. "Please spare them!" Xellos laughed as he looked down at Lina her ruby red eyes filled with tears and pleading. "Please Xellos!" The Mazuko general smiled darkly.
My how the might have fallen. Xellos thought silently.
"Very well my lovely, I will spare them." Xellos caught the eye of one of his subordinants and he phazed out. Zelgadis looked up when he heard Lina's voice and looked unerring across the battle and say Lina chained at the wrist pleading with Xellos Metallium! Zelgadis snarled animal like and created a path of death on his to get at Lina.
"Lina!" Zel cried as he killed a Mazuko and ran as fast as he could. Lina looked on a Zelgadis killed Mazuko after Mazuko.
"Zel stay back!!" Lina screamed as she fought against the chains tied around her wrists until they were raw and bleeding.
"Lina-chan what are you doing?" Xellos asked as he stared down at the sorceress' hands. Xellos touched one of Lina's wrist and she flinched back.
"Don't touch me!" Lina snarled as she jerked back on her chains.
"Lina!" Zel cried he was almost too her, he could see the blood run down her arms from where she had fought against her bond.
"Zel!" Lina cried. "Run!" Xellos saw Lina's concern for the human and phazed out. With a maniacal laugh Xellos phazed in behind Zel and knocked him from his feet with his stave. "Xellos no! Don't kill him!" Lina cried as tears ran down her cheeks.
"Lina." Zel whispered as crawled to his feet.
"Xellos don't kill him! Shabrinigdo would want the leader of the Slayer wouldn't he!?" Lina cried out in desperation. Xellos paused and grinned almost child-like.
"How right you are Lina-chan." Xellos whispered as he laid a hand on Zel's shoulder. "Mono Volt." Xellos murmured and Zelgadis cried out as he fainted.
"Lina..." he whispered as he black out and Xellos' triumphant laughter filled his ears.
1 - A Promise Band is kind of like an engagement ring for us. It shows that a person has promised his/her heart to another and that they are promised to each other.
2 - snickers Sorry I couldn't resist.
