Familiarity with my Rezo Chronicals is a must, and it would help if you have read Redemption.
The song is Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx.
Oceans apart day after day
Rezo looked at over the rim of his coffee cup. He loved the way the sunlight played across her dark blue hair, the gental curve of her neck. The subtle swell of her breasts and her tiny waist. He loved to watch her, he loved....... What in L-sama's was he thinking?! This was Sieran he was thinking about, she practically his baby sister, and thought he kept having about her were anything but brotherly. Rezo sighed. This is driving me mad! he cried silently.
And slowly I go insane
Sieran glanced up as she heard Rezo sigh. She looked at him, he had the oddest look on his face. He's so handsome, why didn't I notice this before? she asked herself metally. One word woud sum him up, elegant. Yet I know that I have no chance at winning his heart. Sieran blinked. What was she thinking? This was he Niichan, the guy had ggrown up with her. He had climbed up the tree outside and rescued her when she had gotten stuck up there. He had been there to hold her when he pet bird had died, and he had helped her bury it and build a small shrine in its honor. Rezo had been there that day when she had fallen down the stairs and had gotten a huge splinter in her knee. He was theone who had carried her into the kitchen and gently pulled it out, all the while his hands had trembled. Sieran shock her head. This was Niichan, she needed to stop thinking about who handsome he was, or how how hearing his voice sent shivers down her spine, this was her brother...... wasn't he?
I hear you voice on the line
Rezo suddenly stood up. He couldn't take it anymore! He had to get away from here, from her. Rezo placed his cup in the sink and walked outside into the freezing weather. He breath caught in his throat as the icy wind knifed through his thin body. Rezo shivered and was tempted to go back inside, but if he did that, he would have to be with her, and he didn't think he could control himslef much longer. Rezo sighed and went to the stable to groom Shab, praying the icy wind would cool his raging hormones
But it doesn't stop the pain
Rezo and Sieran continued their entricate dance of avoiding each other long into the spring when thankfully, for Rezo, she got a boyfriend. Even though he told himslef that he was happy for her, Rezo knew that deep down inside, he was jealous. But he would be damned if he spoiled Sierans chance at happiness. And no matter what, he had to make sure that she didn't figure out his true feelings for her.
If I see you next to never
How can we say forever
Over the next few moutns, Sieran spent the majority of her time with her boyfriend Fiertor. But at nights when she was home and she told he rmother exitedly about her days, no one really noticed Rezo's silence except Shona and she hid her smile admirably. Why doesn't he notice me? Sieran thought silently on the night she was preparing for her first ball unchaperoned I mean I am practically flaunting Fiertor under his nose, doesn't he care? Sieran's eyes clouded over, no he did, she had seen the look in his face when he 'looked' at her. I mean I love Fiertor as a friend, but not like I love him. Sieran sighed. Well I'll just has to wait until he realizes how he feels for me. And Sieran smiled and finished preparing for her ball
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
"Where is she?" Rezo snarled as he paced back and forth in the entryway. At the base of th stairs, Shona smiled slightly. She wouldn't be surprized if his steel staff didn't have dents in it considering how hard he was gripping it.
"I'm sure she fine." Shona tried to sooth agitated young man. Despite her words, Shona was begining to becoem worried. "She is only a few hours late."
"A few? She was supposed to be back by moonset, that was four hours ago. The sun will rise in less then an hour." A mischievous gleam apeared in Shona icy blue eyes.
"I'm sure they are just saying long goodbye as young couples tend to do." The tip of Rezo's staff slammed into the floor and chiped it slightly' Shona grinned outright. "Well I am tired I will see you in the morning." Shona climbed the stairs to her room, yes, she had been right after all
I'll be right here waiting for you
Sieran waved goodbye to Fiertor,, she had finally told him how she felt, and he had taken it very well, almost to well
"I understand," he had whispered. "I never stood a chance next to him." Sieran frowned at that remark and opened the door silently. She looked around and noticed that Rezo was asleep in a chair by the stairs. Sieran smiled slightly and walked past his chair when his hand snaked out and grabbed her wirst.
"Where in L-sama's name have you been?" Rezo stood up and towered above her. For the first time in her life, Sieran found herself affraid of Rezo.
"It's none of your consern." Sieran said frostily as he pulled her wrist from his grasp.
"Yes is it, I will not have you dirty your father's name with your careless behavior. Do you want people to think you a trollup?" The momnent he said it, Rezo regretted his harsh words. Tears filled Sieran green eyes and she slapped him hard. However because of her small stature, where she had been aiming for his cheek, her hand clipped his chin.
"How could you?" Sieran whispered as she back away from him. "How could you say that?" Sieran whirled around and ran up the stairs to he room. She slammed her door shut and locked it before she collapsed on her bed and allow her tears to flow. He thinks I'm a trollup. Sieren cried mentally over and over again.
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
Rezo felt his heart break in to a thousand pieces as Seiran run up the stairs in tears.
"Dear Gods," he whispered. "How could I have said that too her?" Rezo clentched his eyes shut. "She must hate me now." Rezo wearily climbed the stairs. He walked down the hall and paused at Sieran's door. He was about to knock, when her heard her soft sobs, and his hand fell. The last thing she wants to see right now is me." Rezo thought dejectedly as he walked to his room and locked the dorr behind him. For the rest of the night, Rezo tossed and turned as he mentally reveiwed his conversation with Sieran. Than around dawn, he drifted off into a sleep filed with horrible nightmares.
I will be right here waiting for you
I took for granted, all the times
That I though would last somehow
Rezo woke up the next moring and goraned. He pulled the covers over his head and tried to will himslef back to sleep. Was it so wrong to want to live a little bit longer? Knowing that he wasn't a coward used that excuse to force himslef out of bed and into clean clothes. He had just walke dout of his room when he lost his nerve. What can I tell her? Gee I'm sorry I ripped your heart out and handed it right back to you Sieran, you wanna go get some coffee? Rezo thought bitterly as eh walked down the hall. The tall man knocked on Sierans door but he got no answer. He tried to doornob and found it locked. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lock that couldn't keep Rezo out and Sieran's door proved to be no exception. Rezoopene dthe door and peeked inside.
"Sieran?" he whispered. "I'm sorr....." Rezo shut up when a pillow slamed into his head. "Hmmmm, not a good sign." Rezo thought with wry amusement
I hear the laughter, I taste the tears.
"Haven't you hurt me enough Rezo?" Sieran asked silently as she covered her face up with her pillow. "Go away Rezo, you have made you point more then abundantly clear." Sieran was horified that her voice quavered. "Just go away." Rezo shook his head and shut the door behind him.
"No, I need to talk to you Sieran, now." Sieran removed her pillow and she maliciously moved her chair in front of him so that he slammed into it. Sieran couldn't stop her smile at the string of curses he let lose. "You did that on purpose didn't you Minxlette." Rezo murmured as he pushed the chair out of his way. Sieran sat up in her bed and looked at Rezo. Aside from his clean clothes, he looked like he'd had a terrible night. His violet hair was mussed and he had dark circles under his eyes. Rezo sat down on Sieran's bed. "Listen Sieran, I'm sorry for what I said lat night, but Iwas so worried, and I have no excuse for my behavior."
"You mean you don't think that I'm a trollup?" Sieran tried to extinguish the small spark of hope that flared up in her mind. Rezo growled and grasped her chin in his hand ans forced her to look up at him.
"How can you asked that? I could never think that of you Sieran. Never." Rezo's face was a mask odf pension and sorrow. "Please forgive me." Sieran hugged him
"I never could stay angry at you dammit." Sieran wiped absently at the tear that trickled down her cheek. Sieran buried her head on Rezo's dshoulder content to just stay in his arms. Rezo seemed to regain his senses and pushed her away. The look of rejection on her face broke his heart.
But I can't get near you now
I almost did it.... I almost completely betrayed Dathan's trust in me. Dear Gods, what have I become that I almost seduce an eighteen year old who has been almost like my little sister."
"Rezo, am I that repulsive?" Sieran asked and Rezo's attention snapped back on her.
"What are you talking about Sieran. You are one the most beautiful creatures I have ever seen."
"No not that, well that's not all of it. Why is it that whenever I get close to you, you back away." Sieran looked at him with such naked pain in her eyes, Rezo felt like a cad.
"No Sieran it's just that I......." Sieran suddly grabbed Rezo's face and kissed him hard of the lips.
Of can't you see it baby
You've got me going crasy
To say that fireworks went on in Rezo's mind would have been the understatement of the year. Actually, to be more acurate, his mind shut off completely. What was a person supposed to do when the thing they have wanted for years is sudenly hung in front of their face? Perhaps the strongest of people would have been able to resist the temptation, but Rezo discovered that he wasn't nearly as strong as he had though he was. Rezo placed his hand at the back of Sieran's neck and tilted her head up. Her mouth opened in surprise and his tongue swept in exploring. Rezo shifted and pulled Sieran into his lap. She wrapped her arms around his neck and idlely ran her hands through his silky hair. After that, everything was just kind of a blur.
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Much later, Shona, opened her daughter's door, and saw the two curled up together in each other's amrs asleep. Shona grinned, those two had been driving her crazy. But still her aged heart ached, and she prayed to the Gods that they could be happy. Shona smiled onelast time and laid a tray outside the door and then walked outside. She had somethings she wanted to discuss with her husband
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I'll be right here waiting for you
Sieran opened her eyes and stared at Rezo's face. His eyes where opened as far as he could make them, and an anxious expression played across his face.
"Well I guess that's one answer." Sieran chuckled and Rezo blushed bright red. Sieran laughed kissed him.
"You don't reget this?" Rezo's asked unsure.
"Regret, that was a whole lot better then any on my fantasies." If it were possible, Rezo would have gotten very bug eyed at that comment. He saw the teasing grin with his inner sight and gathered her into his arms
"Minx!" Rezo whispered in her ears. "Oh yeah, did I mention that I love you?" Rezo asked in an offhanded manner. It was now Sieran's turn to bug out.
"No." she growled as she glared up at him.
"Well, good."
"So?"
"So what?"
"So do you love me?" Sieran was begining to get uneasy.
"Baka, need you ask?" Rezo asked as his kissed her and projected every thing he felt for her into her mind. "That is how deep my feelings run for you."
"Well that's a good thing, because I love you too." Rezo chuckled and kissed her. For a long time after that, they were silent.
The wedding of Sieran Lei and Rezo the Red Priest was a very small affair. Only about ten people were invited and most of them were godd friends of the family. But perhaps the most distinguished guest was the Master of the Great Temple. Jarren Pax et Lux was a small man with a shocking stock of full light red hair, to be honoset it was pink, a fact that didn't seem to perturb the man at all. Rezo bowed as his former teacher showed up at his the door of the temple where Sieran and he were about to be married.
"I am dissapointed you didn't invite me lad." Jarren shook Rezo's and and kissed both Sieran and Shona's hands.
"He was quite a lady's man in his time." Rezo said de sotto.
"Why you impudent whelp!" Jarren shook his hand in mock anger.
"I like him Rezo." Sieran whispered his Rezo's ear as Jarren charmed some pasteries out of Shona.
"Yeah I'm kind of fond of him myself." Rezo's lips curled up in a slight smile. The rest of the wedding went off without a hitch and by the time the sun was setting Sieran had been situated Shab's broad back, and Rezo was saying goodbye to the weddind guests, namely Jarren. Shona had tears in her eyes as she said goodbye to her daughter.
"Now you two drop by and see me once you get...... settled in." A mischeivious look glinted in Shona's eyes.
"Mother!" Sieran cried in mortification as she hugged her mother one last time. Rezo shook Jarren's hand, and the smaller man handed him a small pendant.
"I noticed that you had lost your other one." Rezo frowned as he thought of his pendant that now rested on Dathan's grave-marker. "If you every need anything, you know how to reach me." Rezo nodded and bowed his head at his teacher one last time.
"Thank you again Master Jarren." Rezo murmued as he finished thnking the last of the guests. Finally he reach Shona and she motioned for him to bend down. Rezo lowered himslef to Shona's level and she kissed him on his smooth cheek.
"Take care of her for me, and let her take care of you." Shona's voice choked with emotion. "Now go to your wife."
"I promise to you Shona, I will guard her with my life." Rezo said solemnly as he stood up.
"I know, and I would expect no less of you."
I wonder how we can survive
This romance
"And I think that Dathan is calling to me from the Otherside." Pain flashed through Rezo.
"Don't listen to him, he can wait." Rezo grasped Shona's hands.
"I'm not dead yet!" Shona growled. "Besides, I want to see my grandchildren."Rezo smiled. "I still have a few years left in my young man so watch it." Shona grinned as she turned around. "Well go on, shoo." Rezo griined and swung up on Shab's back. With one last wave, the couple set off to their new home, and their new life.
But in the end if I'm with you
I'll take the chance
Sieran laughed as Rezo carrie dher across the threshold of their new house.
"Well that was interesting, where in L-sama's name did you learn that?"
"Out of a book I think." Rezo mused as he set his wife down on her feet. Sieran grinned and pulled her hair free of it's confines.
"Are you hungry?" Sieran asked as she walked towards the kitchen. Suddenly, she was very nervous and agitated. Rezo laid his staff against the wall and grinned as he silently walked behind Sieran and grabbed her by the waist. Sieran uttered a small shriek of terror and nearly jumped out of her skin. "Don't do that to me!" she scolded. "now I repeat, are you hungry?" Rezo begain to nibble on her neck and she found in increasingly hard to concentrate.
"Ravenous." Rezo murmured as he picked Sieran up and carried her into their bedroom. Sieran buried her head in Rezo's shoulder to hide her laughter.
"Oh well, food can wait." she thought silentl as she begain to extriact revenge against he rhusband for his little games.
Oh can't you see it baby
Life settled into a routine after that. Rezo would perform his duties in the city, healing the poor and people who couldn't afford healers. But everynow and then he woulc go inot the neighboring countryside to heal the people there. While he was doing this Sieran went to school during the day and volenteered at the local hospitals on some nigths a week. Althhough she was now married, Sieran wasn't going to let that interfere with her dream of becoming a healer. So things seemed very peaceful until one day.....
Sieran bolted from the bed and managed to make it to the bathroom before she threw up.
"Sieran?" Rezo asked as he wrapped a robe aroud her shaking shoulders. Sieran continued to throw up however, and he begain to get worried. Rezo treid to cast a healing spell of Sieran, but he was thrown against the wall when he struck a magical barrier. What the..... Rezo wondered silently as he picked himself up off of the ground. Sieran seemed to be soemwhat better as she ruushed over to Rezo's side, evern if her skin had a greeninsh cast to it.
"Oh Gods are you okay?" Sieran asked in geniune worry as she peered at Rezo with feared filled green eyes.
"Yes I'm fine, but what was that?" Rezo asked.
"What was what?"
"That barrier I slammed into when I tried to heal you." Rezo reached out wihth his powers andsuddenly, his face was awash with joy. "It can't be."
"What?" Panic filled Sieran's voice, but her husband seemed transfixed. "Rezo!" Sieran snapped ans Rezo snapped out of his trance. Rezo grabbed Sieran and hugged her. "What's going on?" Sieran asked, but Rezo was almost too excited to speak.
"Can't you sense it?" Sieran frowned and probed with her powers. Her search brushed against the begining of a life and realization dawn on her.
"I'm going to be a mother?" Sieran murmured as tears of joy filled her eyes. "I'm going to be a mother?" Rezo laughed and caught her mouth in a passionate kiss.
"And I'm gonig to be a father." Awe filled Rezo's voice as he tried to senser his unborn child.
"Don't do that silly, you can't sense the child yet." Sieran scolded. Rezo grinned guiltily.
"Sorry my love." he murmured as he lead Sieran to bed and tucked her in. "I'll go get us some breakfast." At the mention of food, Sieran's face turned in even more unhealty shade of green and she rushed back into the bathroom.
"This is going to be a long day." Rezo murmured as he went to prepare some broth for Sieran, praying that is wouldn't upset her stomach.
You've go me going crazy
He was going to go mad. Rezo paced back and forth down the hallway of the hospital. Rezo would give anything to be in there with Sieran, but he had disconvered that if he tried to cast any spell of her, it met with violent disaster
"Of Gods please let her be alright." Rezo stiffened when he heard Sieran screamed in pain. Rezo burst through the door of the room and rushed over to Sieran's side. Her forehead was dotted with sweat and her green eyes were glazed with pain.
"Baka, you aren't supposed to be here." Sieran gasped, but Rezo grabbed her hand.
"No, whereever you go I go." A single tear ran down Sieran's cheek as another contraction came.
"Sir please move." A peeved nurse muttered as she pushed Rezo out of her way. The nurse gently wiped the sweat from Sieran's brow.
"How is she?" Rezo asked uneasy.
"We are having dificulties " The nurse said bluntly.
"Her body is so delicate.... and she is having not one, but two children." Rezo felt his knees go weak. Oh Gids, Sieran could never survive having twins, it would rip her small body apart.
"No." Rezo whispered as hot tears filled his eyes. He squeezed his eyes shut so that the tears wouldn't leak out and betray him. He couldn't lose her!
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Rezo made his decision, he wouldn't lose his wife. Rezo gather his powers around him and reached out into Sieran's womb, he found him unborn child, his son, and he felt for his heart. Pain and anger flared through him when he found no heartbeat, the child was stillborn! His wife was going to die giving birth to an already dead child! Rezo growled, a very animal like sound and clentched his powers down on his son's body. The body shrunk and shrunk until his was barely the size of a newborn pup. Sieran screamed in pain and looked at him with hate filled eyes.
"You killed it! You killed your own child!" Rezo felt as if he had been punched in the gut. Sieran unleashed her powers instinctively and her raw power slammed into him sending him through the wall and out into the hall beyond.
"No! Sieran!" Rezo cried, but two guards held him back. "Sieran!" he screamed and his anguish echoed through the hospital. Shona walked out of the room a few minutes later.
"The child was dead." she whispered slowly and Rezo did't even look up as tears ran down his face.
"I couldn't let her die for a child that was already dead." Rezo cried, and Shona knelt down in front of the chair hie was siting in.
"I understand, and I would have done the same."
"I need to see Sieran, I have to explain to her what happened."
"Sieran isn't very lucid right now Rezo." Shona said softly, and a chill ran over Rezo as he stood up He stalked down the hallway, and his body was cover by a glowing red aura. Rezo walked into the room and saw Sieran holding their child against her side. She looked up at him, and he hesitated, not knowing whether out not she wanted to see him.
"Mother told me what happened." Sieran whispered as she begain to tremble. Rezo rushed over to her side and knelt down next to her bed and grapse dher hand. "Sieran, you can't leave me, don't you dare!" Sieran looked at Rezo with unfocoused eyes.
"Sometimes we don't have a say in the matter love." Sieran murmured. "Besides, I will be waiting for you on the Otherside, just know that I......" the Light seemed to dim in Sieran's eyes. "Now that I loved you, and only you." Sieran smiled once and gripped Rezo's hand once more. Then she shuddered and he hand fell limply Rezo's hand.
"Sieran? Sieran no!" Rezo cried as he threw back his head and howled in fury. "You can't leave me please Sieran no!" Rezo's tears fell form his cheeks and fell to the floor forming small diamonds. Rezo clung to his dead wife's hand as to atendants tried to pry the grieving priest away form his wife's still body. Then all of a sudden, Rezo seemed to regain control of himslef and he stood up. He caressed his wifes cheek one last time and kissed her cooling lips.
"Goodbye my live, we will meet on the Otherside." Rezo turned around and genly grabbed his daugther from the arms of a nearby nurrse. Rezo used his inner sight to look down at his daughter. She had her mother's indigo hair, and Shon'a silver blue eyes. Rezo kissed the top of his daughter's forehead as he carried her out of the room. He looked down at her one last time and handed her over to Shona.
"Take care of her for me." Rezo murmued as he continued down the hall. Shona watched as the grieving young man walked away form her, and his child. Shona's cried as he looekd down at her grandaughter, she looked so much like Sieran. Shona wriped her tears from her cheeks, now was not the time for tears. She told herslef firmly as she looekd at Rezo's retreating back. People deal with their grief in different ways. Shona thought silently. Some rely upon their family, and others, well they distance themsleves from the cause of their pain. Rezo I prey you come back to us, your daughter shouldn't have to grow up without a mother and a father.
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you
