Experiments

The setting is a big ballroom with lots of fancy decorations and a LONG table full of goodies and drinks. The Slayers cast is strewn about, Gourry and Shylfiel are dancing while Lina and Zel are having a heated debate about some magic spell or another. Okay, Lina's getting heated as she stuffs her face...Zel's standing there, sipping punch and giving comments when Lina catches her breath. Amelia is sitting off in a distant corner, chin on her hands and sighing out at all the various people dancing and having a good time. Oh yeah...mix a whole heap load of other people too to crowd up the room. Sure enough...yeah, they were invited too.

Amelia sighed. The 'party' was being held in her honour....but she still wasn't having fun. No one had asked her for a dance; well, no one she wanted to ask her. Glancing over at Zelgadiss, she sighs again. She even had this pretty gown made just for it...hoping he might notice. But, he didn't. Everyone noticed when Lina wore a dress. If they only knew the trouble she went through to get that dress on her! She really hated blackmail for it was unjust and cruel and all the things she didn't like...but it was for the good of all. Right?

A huge explosion suddenly rocked the room and the whole wall next to the buffet table heaved inwards, flinging stones and various debree with it. It also flung the Amelia to the floor, efficiently ruining her dress and ripping it a great deal towards the bottom.

At first the princess thought it was Lina and her temper, but when she glanced over, there was the sorceress lying unconcious on the ground next to an equally unconcious chimera. Others had been knocked unconcious as well, littering the room with hurt and few non-hurts. The non-hurts were either fleeing, grabbing their friends and fleeing, or cringing next to loved ones that were unconcious. Searching through the people, she noticed Gourry had been knocked out as well, and Shylfiel was kneeling next to him, trying to wake him up. It looked up to her now.

Dashing over to where Lina and Zelgadiss lay, Amelia realized she was weaponless. Of course she knew magic and the like, but it would still be comforting to have something to depend on; she always had her friends to help, but they seemed....efficiently destracted at the moment. Glancing around, the first thing she saw was Zelgadiss's sword. Even if they had managed to cram him into a nice tux - and man did he look good in that tux - they still hadn't managed to convince him to take off his sword. Good thing too.

Reaching down, she slowly slipped the sword off of his waist and held it in a ready stance before her. Hopefully whatever was attacking would just hurry up and get it over with...the sword was heavier then it looked. Shaking her head, she cleared her thoughts of all that. "Show yourself vile villain of evil! The true defender of Justice awaits and shall punish you for your evil deeds!" She could feel tears coming to her eyes. The enemy still hadn't shown itself and she was getting scared; however, she couldn't show her enemy that...she had to remain strong! Putting a set look upon her face, she showed that she meant business...despite her teary eyes. "It is rude indeed that you should interrupt this joyous occasion with your violence! I demand that you kneel down and pay for your crime!" Hopefully that did it.

Suddenly, something appeared throughout the settling dust. "What the..." Out of the large hole in the wall, a head poked out from one side. Bespectacled face smudged with dirt, large, brown eyes blink a few moments and then a wide, toothy grin erupts upon her (yes, it's a she) face. Finally, the full body pops out revealing a short statured girl with long, braided, brown hair. "Sorry 'bout that! I didn't realize that the ballroom was right next to the lab!" Here, the girl raspberries herself as Amelia stares on in disbelief, letting the sword drop a bit.

"Who are you?" The princess finally manages to stutter something out, not believing that this grinning kid that was shorter then her could blow out the eastern wall.

The girl had currently been rummaging through some of the rubble near the wall before she looked up and blinked. "I'm Li...authoress extroardinair...and you're Amelia." Glancing back down, she rummages some more. "I was given permission to use the lab here...which, obviously, is right next to the ball room. My apologies again...Norin was messing with things."

At that, a chimera that looked awfully similar to Zel stepped out, coughing and sputtering. "Well how was I supposed to know I wasn't supposed to put those two together?"

"'Cause I said 'don't combine those two' about fifty million times!!!"

"Can I help it if you have a small voice?" At this, the chimera finally notices Amelia and blinks. "Hey...isn't that Amelia?"

Li snorted as she rummaged some more. "Duh...I may not write many things about her, but you should know."

"Yeah..well...then why is she holding Zel's sword?" Norin points his meaning with a finger towards the princess, still clinging on to aforementioned sword.

Li's head instantly shoots up. "What???" Eyes then narrow and she stands up straight. "What are you doing with that?" Amelia, flickers a glance towards the still unconcious chimera on the ground and then back towards Li.

Authoress, of course, didn't miss that glance and looks too. "oops...guess that explosion was bigger then I thought...BUT STILL!" Reaching behind her, Li then pulled out a massive ruler, almost as big as her. "That's Lina's property...and Zel's too but that doesn't matter....YOU SHALL PAY!"

Diving at the princess, the two suddenly disappear in a cloud of dust as they start to fight. Occasion limbs, Li's ruler and Zel's sword make a few appearances outside...but mostly the only thing coming from within is various bits of words: "..let go..that's not yours!..give.." "What are you.....stop....leggo!" "mine! not yours!" "why you!"

Norin sweatdropped. "Oh dear..." Glancing around at the destruction before him, he sighs and shakes his head, pulling out a little box-type device he holds it up to his mouth. "Tai?"

Listening for a moment, a crackly, weird type of voice responds, as if over a walkie-talkie. "Yeah?"

"We need a lift out...Li's gotten herself into trouble again."

"Not again?"

"'fraid so."

"All right. The portal should be ready....now."

On the last word over the radio, a onyx and crimson swirling portal appears near the hole in the wall. Walking over, the chimera reaches into the dust-cloud and pulls out a still struggling Li. "Time to go."

"But I'm not finished yet!!!"

Glancing back at the clearing fray, Norin raises his brow at the now-fairly-desheveled princess. "I think you've done enough. Let's go." And both go willingly, and unwillingly, into the portal. Said portal soon disappears, but not after a large bag pops out with a note.

Finally regaining her wits, Amelia walks over and picks up the bag, finding it full of coins. Unfolding the note, she reads: The money is for the mess...full apologies for the lab. Have fun explaining why the wall is blown up and why you're holding Zel's sword! Signed, Li. :P" Blinking, Amelia turned and glanced back at her recently unconcious friends...who were now sitting up and staring around. Zel finally spotted her......and his sword.

"What are you doing with that?"

"And what happened?" Lina seemed thoroughly angry at the mess that she obviously didn't cause, but was most likely going to be blamed on her.

"Um...y'see..it's..uh...a long story." Amelia stammered, glancing down at the note, then the hole and then her friends.

"It better be a ^@#$@# good one too."

"well......"
