Chapter 1

Naka Ashita was worried. Worried about the mysterious woman outside her shop, studying her sign intensely. Naka wasn't a seer, but this woman was WRONG. Something about her...

Naka turned away from the window. She's just a customer, she thought with a disturbed sigh. That big bundle of hers is probably just some things from the market. It's too big, said the back of her mind, and she's too WRONG. Ignoring her ominous thoughts, she went back to trimming her plants

Lina Inverse was not worried. In fact she was having the time of her life. Slightly red from the drinks, which someone had spiked, (Amelia thought it was that smiley bounty hunter, but she couldn't make sure) she was whirling aroud the dance floor at the 1998 ANNUAL ADVENTURER'S GATHERING AND PARTY (AAGAP). As she passed Gourry, Amelia, and Zelgadis, (who was not happy to be there) the former not-too-swift swordsman remarked a little too loudly, "Wonder why those guys wanna dance with someone that bony. And flat." Lina turned from red to redder. "Ekshkushe me" she said to the smiley bounty hunter, whom she was currently dancing with. She walked calmly over to Gourry. When she reached him she pulled out her bunny slipper and WHACKED him over the head with it, yelling "DON'T CALL ME FLAT CHESHTED!!!" She walked back over to the bounty hunter, who was smiling very widely. "Shorry." she said. "Hope that washn't a problem." The smile got wider, if such a thing was possible. "No problem, Lina-chan. Smack Gourry, if you like." They began to dance. After they started dancing, Lina remembered something. "I didn't shay hish name wash Gourry. How'd you know?" The man smiled and wagged his finger. "Ah, that is a secret, Lina-chan." "Hm," said Lina. "Shecretsh. You shound like Xellosh.

"ZELGADIS-SAN!" came a shrill voice. He sighed inwardly as the hyperactive princess, who had been feasting seconds before, came over and latched herself onto him. "Amelia - " "Zelgadis-san, Zelgadis-san, Doyouwanttodancehuhhuhdoyoupleasepleasepleasepleeeeese?!" Zelgadis sighed and sweat-dropped. "NO, Amelia." he said as he disentangled himself from her. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Lina dancing with her bounty hunter. Lina...NO! he thought suddenly. I don't like her, and...she doesn't like me. Then why does that bother you? No. I don't lo - LIKE Lina, and I won't have myself telling me that I do. So, I gotta stop thinking about her, he thought, and reluctantly began to look around for Amelia.

Karai was very, very worried. Naka Ashita was her last hope. She'd heard that she was the best white magician in three countries, and was working for hire-that was the first hope she had had for months. But now she had found this person, and her sign did not say the spell she wished to cast. In the middle of her 4th time reading over the sign she thought angrily to herself, Oh, who would put such a powerful spell on a sign? I'll have a hard enough time getting her to cast it in the first place, it's so dangerous. I'm so stupid! THAT is why my master refused to make me a higher servant - that, and I let him die. Oh, stop it, Karai! Even if you had been there, you could have done nothing against the Lord of Nightmares! The important thing now is finding someone to cast the Giga Ressurection spell so I can get him back. And I will deal with what happens next, next.

Oh no, thought Naka, she's coming in! She tried to force her thoughts down but she knew this was going to be trouble. She opened the door. "Hello, Okyaku-san, would you like some tea?" This is not going to be good... "No." said the woman, who now that she looked more carefully was actually more of a girl. She looked about as happy to be there as Naka herself was. The girl observed for a moment, then asked abruptly, "Do you know how to cast Giga Ressurection?" Naka blanched. "I-I can cast that." She stammered. "But I won't." "I will give you... one hundred thousand gold pieces if you will cast it." She said quietly. "But if you do not, I will take your life in the most horrible way I can imagine." Naka turned even paler. "You don't understand! If I get one thing wrong, the world could be destroyed!" "DO IT! Ashita-san, you were my last hope." She squeezed her bundle. "He..." "All right" Naka closed her eyes and Karai carefully placed the contents of her bundle onto the floor.

"Power beyond the known powers,
deeper than the deepest night.
Queen of light, who shines like
gold upon the sea of chaos,
I call upon thee, swear myself to thee,
let he who rests before me have life again...
GIGA RESSURECTION!"

Naka chanted. She opened her eyes and turned absolutely white. She stared at the seemingly innocent child's body as life returned to it. "No...this isn't...I-I didn't... I didn't ressurect..." "Yes. You have resssurected my lord and master, the Meiou Phibrizo-sama."

Lina walked home alone in the dawn's light. All her companions had gone home early, where's the fun in that? Only one other person remained on the road. A tall man in priest's robes. As she passed, he hailed her. "Are you Lina Inverse?" "Yeah. So what yawn are you a Mazoku in disguise tryin' to trick me? The man sweatdropped, then wiped it away, smiled, and ignored her question. "If you will go to the temple on the hill and wipe out the Garv worshippers there, you will get a reward. A powerful spellbook...I know for a fact you do not know these. Please do this for me, as L-sama is the world's rightful master." "Way to be blunt," commented Lina, "But a new spell and whatever treasure they've got, I'll take it! Jus' lemme get some sleep first."

"Harken, my travis!" cried layla no-buka, outside the Sacred Temple of the Maryuuou, Lord of the Universe, Etc, Etc. "Someone beest coming towards His Sacred Temple!" "Worry not, my layla!" cried travis no-buka, trying to be gallant. "We, the minions of our Master, the great Maryuuou Garv-sama, shall take care of this arrogant one! Hark, fool who dares to tresspass on the sacred ground of the Maryuuou! what name art thou called by, though surely one who would dishonor the great Chaos Dragon Garv, is unworthy of a name!"

Lina invese, standing on the path leading up to the Sacred Temple of the Maryuuou, Lord of the Universe, Etc, Etc, (which we'll just call the temple for description purposes, though I don't think I can stop layla and travis calling it that) sweatdropped. Oh boy, she thought, they're worse than I imagined! "I am Lina Inverse, and if you put a path here, I'd think you'd expect - " "LINA INVERSE!!!!????" travis panicked. "The enemy of all who live!? Quick, everyone! Inside the Sacred Temple of the Maryuuou, Lord of the Universe, Etc, Etc!" Geez, thought Lina, this is gonna suck.

Meiou Phibrizo readied an energy bolt to throw at L. Before he could release it, she retaliated. There was a hazy flash of golden chaos light, and the next moment, a year later,

The bolt of power was gone, but the energy pool he had drawn it from was much larger now-why? How had he got here? He couldn't sense his mother now, or those fools he had killed, but weren't dead. Only a pale, strange woman-her presense was full of fear, and - "Karai! Baka, I told you to stay at the temple, why're you HERE?! What is going onnn!??"

This part... Karai looked away. She couldn't face him... "You..." For the whole year, it had never seemed real that she would have to tell him this... "You died, Meiou-sama. Lina - L-sama - she killed you with her chaos blast...I couldn't get there in time...I went out to find you, and ressurrect you...it's been a year..." Karai held down tears. No weaknesses, she thought bitterly. I want to be a strong servant to Meiou-sama! "I had Ressurection cast...it did not work...I searched and found Naka Ashita. She cast Giga Ressurection on you." Phibrizo grinned widely, evilly. What? Why was her master smiling? "Karai, idiot." He would always call her names. Because she was not good enough... "Do you even know what Giga Ressurection DOES?" She bowed her head, shamed, and frightened. "N-no, Meiou-sama." She waited for his angry words to come, worse than a thousand blows, telling her she had failed, she was not fit to serve him... Just when she thought...she could make up for his death.

He laughed. "Stupid. Just like a human to cast spells on their master without knowing what they are. Giga Ressurection will make the recipent more powerful! Anyway, Ashita-san...remember the girl you used to take care of? The half Mazoku girl, who you loved so dearly anyway?" He giggled. Naka stood up, her eyes on fire. "What have you done with her, you monster?" She shouted. "Give her back! If you've harmed her..." "Oh, I haven't touched her. I assure you, she came of her own free will. But I don't think she wants to go back...do you, Karai?"

Lina squared off against the waves of opponents pouring from the temple.

"Garv Flare!"

"Foolish woman," said travis. "Do you really think you can harm the faithful servants of the Demon Dragon King with His own spells?" "Honestly!" shouted Lina. "You're a freak!"

"Mass Confuse!"

She vaulted over the tops of her assailors. "Ok, now I have a clear shot!

Darkness beyond twilight
Crimson - Oh, to heck with it!
Dragon Slave!"

Lina ran into the temple and facefaulted. THIS is a TEMPLE?" She wondered aloud, staring at the computers lining the wall. "Well, I guess I'd better get going if I wanna get the book!"

"I'm gonna turn baaack! I'm hot and my feeet huuurt! Lina whined. She had wandered through seven rooms already, most filled with stuff about Garv. This room was no different. It was titled "Artifacts of the Maryuuou", and was full of glass cases with things in them that were so woshipful of Garv it made Lina feel sick. I am really tired of this... she thought. At the back of the room, though, was a box with a book...a booklet, maybe 4 pages, and a little card reading "Weird spellbook none of us can use." The bottom of the card said in handwriting, "To be translated into prose soon." She broke the case and took out the book. She opened to the second page and saw "GIGA SLAVE"

Her eyes widened. Without looking further, she stuffed it into her shirt and went to deal with the fanatics, and mayyybeee a little of they're treasure.

Lina sat on her bed at the inn. She was cold, though it was a warm night. She had dealt with the remaining minions, taken the few items of worth they owned, and promptly forgot the spellbook in her glee at finding a rather large pricey jewel-until it fell out of her shirt when she went to bed. Now she was sure that that priest was no normal person. If he knew of this book... On the first page, there was an introduction, and warning. "These are the Giga spells, powerful spells from the making of the world. The universal triad, a force of creation, destruction, and a force of sheer will. But a word of warning. If the wrong person casts these spells, or they are cast wrong, they could bring about the destrucion of the world. Use with caution." A shiver went down Lina's spine. She turned the page. The Lord's Destruction, Giga Slave. Then The Lord's Creation, Giga Ressurection. And then -

Lina closed the book. The Lord's Will, the third Giga spell at the top of the triangle. This was no ordinary book. She couldn't handle this! She hid the book under her mattress and slipped into sreams of the world being destroyed by a golden thread.
