Night had fallen, and Zelgadis was alone in the great castle built by her distant ancestors. Once it would have seemed creepy and strange to her, but she was rapidly getting used to things like this, thanks to the events of the past few weeks. All in all, she was glad that everything had happened the way it had. Now, her whole life was beginning to make sense, and with the strangely familiar warmth of her newfound magic, she somehow felt whole, or at least on the right track.
Now, much of her time was spent lazily trying to remember the distant past, trying to latch onto those oldest fuzzy memories that were slowly starting to return. As she lay on her tower room bed in the faint moonlight, she was suddenly struck with a memory of a big, balding man with a hearty laugh. Just the sight of him in her mind's eye provoked a wide smile. Oh yeah! The Earl Greywers! He'd been like an uncle to her. She vaguely recalled feeling safe in his solid presence.
