Sickness Sucks

Its a given that sooner or later everybody has to get sick. However, in all the worlds there seems to be one particular race that has never gotten sick. They are called the Mazuko, a race of pure evil. They live for 1000's of years, and never get sick? How do they do that, what powers do they hold to keep sickness at bay. Maybe they are very good at keeping secrets; maybe they don't want the other beings to know that they get sick because it would hurt their reputation. Therefore, what would happen if a Mazuko did get sick? Let's find out.

"Damn it where is he. I called him a half hour ago." Beast Master growled to herself. "He has never been late before. Zellas Metalium impatiently tapped her fingers on her chair. Taking another drag on her cigarette she blew out smoke in the shape of little claws.

"Oh the things I am going to do to him when I see him." She kept on in that train of thought for another 15 minutes thinking of all sorts of dastardly deeds to do to her Trickster Priest.

"I've had enough if he won't come to me then I will just have to go to find him." Rising out of her chair she stormed out of her receiving chamber. Outside of her receiving chamber was a great hall. In it were all the creatures that actually made her work to capture them. One of her most prized catches was a wily coyote; another was a bird that ran so fast that it would give Zelgadis a challenge. Concendently the coyote had been chasing the bird as they both ran on the road in the desert. She also had dragons from earlier times; she had birds, sharks, and many other creatures beyond imagination. As she walked she admired them and though back on each adventure. When she came to the end of the hallway and was no longer in sight the fifty odd heads on the wall turned and stuck their tongues out at her. She came back, looked at them, the heads quickly resumed their positions, and Beast Master smirked.

"Well let's see where my priest is today. Probably goofing off with that Inverse gal and her cohorts." She came to the door of her priest's room and knocked. She didn't have to, but it would be more fun to hear the sounds of panic as Xelloss put away whatever he was working on. Oddly the only sounds that came out was the sound of heavy breathing.

"No he wouldn't, would he? Only one way to find out." With a touch of anxiety she slowly pushed the doors open and walked into the outer room. The heavy breathing was definitely coming from the bedchambers. Going up to the inner door, she thought about what she would do. Finally gathering her courage she opened the inner doors

"?!?!?!?!?"

What she saw there was worst than she had imagined. The covers were in disarray, the sheets were pulled out and the pillows were scatted. Testing the air, Beast Master could smell sweat and something else. She looked at who and how many were occupying the bed.

Sighing "Oh thank L-sama its only Xelloss. But what the hell is he doing sleeping in at this hour?" Going to his bed, she sat down at the edge. Gazing at him she noticed many things. He was definitely having a hard time breathing, his eyes were tightly shut, his face was pale almost like death, and his hair, which normally has a shine like the heart of a purple amethyst, was dull and lifeless

"What the...?"

Taking a closer look she noticed his eyes were shut not from smiling but from pain. Opening them she found them glazed over with fever. Putting her hand on his forehead she found that it was hot as well.

"Shoot he's sick again, What is that the second time this millennium? I should just leave him."

With a disgusted look on her face, she rose and walked to the door.

Before she got there she heard a little whimper. Xelloss had heard, faintly, someone come in. He didn’t know whom but he really didn’t want to be left alone. Zellas Metallium really hated when Xelloss was sick for when it hit him, it hit him hard. She heard the sound and looked back at his face. What she saw there changed her mind about leaving him. Walking back over to where Xelloss lay, she knelt down and placed a hand on his throat.

"Hmm pulse erratic even for him, breathing was coming heavy and fast. Well looks like he is going to have a fun time tonight. I’d better go and see if we have any medicine that I can stuff down his throat." She went out the door and soon came back with some medicine. Also she brought with her a stool, water basin and some sponges.

When a Mazuko gets sick, magic isn't going to help him get better only time and patience. Zellas hooked the stool over to the bed with her foot and sitting down began to sponge off the sweat. As she did, she noticed the way the bed was made (or unmade) as the case may be. Sighing she decided to remake the bed. Casting a small levitation spell on Xelloss she lifted him up and quickly remade the bed with new sheets and blankets. Placing Xelloss back on the newly made bed, she looked at his eyes again. They still showed the signs of fever. As she tucked Xelloss in he began to cough and shiver. Holding him down with one hand she used the other to conjure up a glass of red wine. With all the work he was forcing on her, she needed it. Looking down on the poor priest she commented.

"Oh boy when you get sick you don't do it half way do ya."

Smiling in a fashion she held him down until his shaking subsided. Soon he quieted and slipped into a quiet slumber. Not restful but quiet.

"Well my little Xelloss you are going to owe me big time for this

Through the night Xelloss tossed and turned not aware of what going on. He knew someone was with him but didn't really know nor care who it was, just as long as he wasn't alone. Beast Master continued to care for him until morning. Tired from staying up all night, she decided to lie down on the cot she had brought in earlier. As she slept Xelloss slowly came out of his daze. Looking around the room with his eyes partially open he tried to focus in on the blurs that stood for his room. As he did this he noticed of all people, his master lying down on a cot in his room. And upon seeing her, he slowly crawled out of his bed. Clutching a blanket to his chest he walked toward the sleeping lord. Using one hand to hold the blanket and the other to hold him steady, he maneuvered the blanket over her. Then he headed back to his bed. He didn't get very far; three feet into the journey he tripped over his own feet and crashed to the floor. Startled Beast Master woke and shifted into her full battle armor. Looking around she tried to find what killer had awoken her. Her eyes didn't find the assassin but instead they fell on a fever dazed Mazuko trying, unsuccessfully, to crawl back into bed. Shifting out of her armor she walked over, picked him up by his arms, and dragged him back into his bed.

"Xelloss just what do you think you were doing?"

Xelloss looked up at his master blinked groggily and slowly answered.

"I was just trying to help, I saw you laying there and I thought you might be cold so I tried to cover you up." He slurred around his tongue

"Hump. Well next time just stay in bed. Anyway how are you feeling?"

"Better then yesterday, but I am still very cold." He shivered.

"That’s the fever, do you know you always seem to get sick just when I am ready to launch my most brilliant plans?"

Xelloss looked at her then at his blankets. Showing how nervous he was he began playing with the edge. "Well it does seem that way, but I don't mean to, I really don't." He looked at her, his eyes wide open and showing how much he meant it.

Patting his head like a little schoolboy. "Yes I know. You hate being sick more then anything else." She turned around and went back to her cot to straighten up.

"Master?" Xelloss said softly.

"What?"

"Thank you for taking care of me."

"You're welcome, I know you would do the same for me." Looking over her shoulder She gave him a meaningful look.

"Yes"

"Now get some sleep. When you wake up I'll have some food ready.

"Okay" Xelloss turned over and began to snore lightly.

"Another thing about when he's sick it’s the only time he snores. Oh well."

Picking up her pillow and blankets she went out to go scare the servants into getting dinner started.

A few hours later Beastmaster felt Xelloss awaken. Walking towards his room loaded with all the various sick type foods, chicken soup tea, and toast. She brought the food she had promised him. Doing a balancing act that would make a high wire artist proud she was able to open the door. Walking through the outer chamber and to the inner one she nudged the door open with her foot. As the door open fully Zellas found a very awake, veeeery hungry minion.

"Well are you hungry?" she asked with a smirk.

"You bet." He had his eyes tightly shut and a grin ear to ear. Then to add its two cents in the quiet room was suddenly filled with a loud growl.

Placing the tray of food on his lap, she freed up one of her hand to touch his forehead.

"Well I'm glad your fever is broken and gone. Now I can get back to all my brilliant plans." She posed as she said this expecting instant applause and attention. When Xelloss didn't answer she looked down and found him stuffing his face.

"Damn after being sick you have worst manners then that Inverse girl, when it comes to food."

"Sorry...mrph gulp... Master, but I'm soooooooooo hungry.

" I know, I know, finish up here then get some sleep. Tomorrow we will start out fresh."

Xelloss nodded but continued to eat.

The next day Xelloss came to the receiving hall. His cape blowing in the wind. (You know the wind that comes from every direction to make the characters look impressive)

"Master, I'm ready"

Looking around the hall he could find no trace of her.

"Hmmm... where could she be?" Leaving the hall he began to search. Stopping in the hall of heads he mentally searched for her. He found his master in her private chambers. Walking around the corner he felt the heads all turn and stick their tongues out at him. To retaliate he tied little pink bows on their tougues, then walked away smiling. He continued toward his Masters rooms. He stopped at the door for a moment and debated whether he should go in or not. Finally, he took a chance, he knocked. Getting no response he opened the door just a tad. Peeking in he tried to see his Master.

"Master are you all right?"

A low moan was all he got. Opening the door fully he spotted his prown mistress. She was lying sprawled in bed not looking in the greatest of shape. He walked over to her. Before he could do anything she said something.

"Damn you Xelloss you gave me your fever." She didn't rant and rave for very long, she was to tired to. Curling up in her blankets she turned over and went to sleep. Xelloss wasn't really stunned by his Master's mode swings; he was used to them. What he wasn't prepared for was her being sick.

"Oh well looks like we aren't gong to get anything done this week." Snagging a stool with his foot he settled down to care for his Master.
