Zelgadiss took one look at the small village and headed off in the other direction.

"What's the matter Zel-chan, not interested in a comfy bed tonight?" Xellos asked, causing the chimera to scowl.

"Where I go is no concern of yours." He replied and the mazoku pouted.

"Aw come on Zel-chan, I'm just showing an interest in you, is that so bad?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

Zelgadiss just ignored the question and continued walking. He was not about to explain to Xellos that the last time he was in a village that small his trip had ended with a very nasty scene involving a lynch mob. Definitely not high on his list of experiences worth repeating.

"Another night in the cold, lonely forest." Xellos sighed heavily.

"You don't have to stay." Zelgadiss informed him and the mazoku smiled.

"I know."

Zelgadiss waited but the mazoku just continued to walk beside him. "Well?" He finally asked darkly.

"Well what?" The mazoku asked in a confused tone.

"Aren't you leaving?"

"I wasn't intending to." He replied cheerfully. "Hope that doesn't bother you too much."

Zelgadiss turned away without answering and continued walking. Xellos spent far too much of his time with him when all the chimera wanted was to be alone, it was annoying.

Just annoying, nothing else, just annoying.

Sure, yeah, and Lina would turn down a free meal. Zelgadiss sighed as he looked up to discover that it was almost sunset. Setting his conflicting reactions to Xellos' company to the side for the moment he went searching for a suitable place to make camp. He finally found a rather desolate looking clearing but shrugged, it was better than nothing. He finished making a campfire and then looked up when he realised that Xellos hadn't said anything in a long time.
