Xellos

Notes

This is why I call my insanity a "more insidious form of insanity". It is yaoi. Sorry, but I couldn't resist another Zel/Xel yaoi!!

Zelgadis woke up with a start. That was... the dream...

The dream started coming to him when Rezo first changed into a chimera. There was someone holding him, stroking his rough cheek with lean fingers. Kisses rained onto his face, to his neck, and back to his lips. Passion increased, and then...

He woke up.

After a while, more things came clearly to him. The person holding him had shoulder length hair, and the fingers were so gentle... even though, inside the dream, he knew the fingers weren't usually like that...

And, as well, there was more to the dream. Whispers dropped into his ears softly, and the hands wandered to places he didn't even bear to look at after his transformation. The heat in the dream seemed to be real, as if the nocturnal happenings were actually real...

He met Lina Inverse, the redhead, fiery, and short tempered sorceress. When he did so, the details were more defined. Then, he realized with horror, what gender the other person was.

Male.

He was dreaming about another guy.

At first, he thought the other person was Gourry. But, no. The fingers were lean, not thick and muscular like the swordsman's. His hair was much, much longer than his dream man's. But who was the mysterious person? And why was he dreaming about him?

Zelgadis went to find a cure for his body, not able to bear the sight of his monstrous body.

There wasn't a chimera's cure.

And, as far as he could see, there never would be.

He met up with Lina in Sairaag, after learning about the wanted posters. He wanted to see who was so stupid as to put up a wanted poster about Lina Inverse.

He never imagined Eris, and the Kopii Rezo. After looking some things up about the real Rezo, he learned about his legacy, which ended up being the key to Zanaffar's revival. But that was the first time he heard about the mystical text known as the Clair Bible.

Zel's next plan for curing his body would to find the Clair Bible. Naturally, that would have the answers. Rarely does anything go the way anyone wants.

Xellos.

Xellos...

The annoying Mazoku.

The man in his dream.

Zel pretended he never had those dreams before when he was around the purple haired Mazoku. But his subconscious wouldn't let him forget. The dreams slowly became more detailed, as the hair took on a definite purple tinge. The eyes opened to show cutting shards of amethyst, Mazoku slitted, eyes.

It was Xellos.

And, it seemed, it had always been him.

"Aww, Zel-kun... don't be such a stick in the mud!" Xellos whined, twining his arms around the chimera. A bird in the woods around them chirped as the lake water ripped in the breeze.

Zelgadis looked around, and realized the others were gone. Probably fishing, he reasoned. "Xellos," he asked in a hushed voice, "can I talk to you?"

Blink-blink. "Sure," the Mazoku answered, stunned as he got off the chimera to sit across from him. This was the first time Zel had confided in him, trusting him enough with a personal secret.

Now that Zel had his attention, it seemed the Talk would be harder than he first realized. "H-have you ever had... dreams?" he asked, hoping his cheeks wouldn't burn off from the heat his blush was producing.

Xellos chuckled, and ran a finger over his red cheek. "You're blushing, Zel-kun," he chided. "To answer your question... Sore wa..."

"Don't," he growled fiercely. "I want to know. Have you ever had dreams... about me? Before you met me?"

He blinked. How did he know? Xellos wondered. "Now, Zel-kun, have you been having dreams about little ol' moi?" He snickered, trying to put his unease aside. "I'm flattered."

"I had these when I became a chimera, Xellos," Zel growled. "I didn't even know there was a Juu-ou-sama then. And I definitely didn't know about you."

There was a bad feeling settling in both of their stomachs. "I have," Xellos said simply, trying to end the talk as soon as possible. "Maybe around the same time you became a chimera."

"Why?"

The Mazoku shook his head, opening his eyes. "L-sama?" he suggested. "Fate? I don't know."

"Xellos?"

"Hm?"

"Have you ever... wanted to act out the dream?" Zelgadis asked in a soft, almost incomprehensible tone of voice.

The Mazoku's lean fingers brushed across Zel's rough cheek. "All the time."

That was all the prompting he needed. The chimera leaned forward, and kissed Xellos full on the mouth. He hesitated for a moment, then returned it with all the passion of the dreams they had been having.

Actions followed actions, and soon several articles of clothing found their homes strewn across the ground. Xellos brushed his hands up the chimera's rocky chest, the well practiced hands making Zel moan in terrifying pleasure. Suddenly, Xellos pulled back. He remembered, this was the time the dream always ended. What was about to happen?

Even if he knew about it before hand, everything happened so fast that he wouldn't have been able to stop it. Somehow, Xellos had a sword. And, not just any mortal sword. This was Gourry's Hikari no Ken. The only sword that could kill a Mazoku... Before he knew it, the blade of light pierced Xellos' chest.

He had been slain... by his own hand. Xellos had killed himself. "Doshite?" he whispered, betrayal and sadness seeping into his heart. "Doshite... Xellos?"

Instead of a verbal answer, Xellos pulled down Zel's head, and locked his lips on his for the last time. When he fell, dead, Zelgadis' sapphire eyes filled with tears. However, the hands that brushed away the tears were not the same...

Smooth.

Human.

Maybe it was all an illusion. Hesitantly, Zelgadis crawled over to the lake, and looking into the sparking, reflecting depths.

Not an illusion. A very human Zel looked back at him, as his amethyst eyes blinked...

Wait... Purple eyes.

Through the eyes, Xellos looked back at the former chimera. With a life of their own, they sparkled with an inner light, almost taunting the onlooker of secrets he knew, but no one else did... Zel rubbed his eyes.

It's not the vision, Zel-kun, Xellos' voice whispered, amused, in his head. That's why I kissed you in the end.

Zelgadis picked up the cooling body of the former Mazoku. 'Doshite? Why did you do that?'

We both have some things to say... and the only way my person would believe me is if someone else told her. Don't, he said sharply when a tear threatened to roll out of Zel's eye. I had the dream up to the point when I used the Hikari no Ken. This was supposed to happen.

... did you... ?

Yes.

Zelgadis ran a hand down Xellos' body, tracing the lean form for the last time. Who is the one you wanted to talk to?

She's coming. Can't you hear her?

Footsteps crashed through the woods, and Zel looked up to see the girl Xellos had said he wanted to talk to...
