As I sit here with my paper,
S'posedly finishing my play,
I wonder and I ponder
What went on here yesterday.
I was sleeping rather soundly,
The sleep of tender maids
When suddenly a racket
Blasts fit to wake the dead.
"WHAT THE BLAZES IS THAT?"
I loudly wish to know,
But then my question's answered
With one unholy blow.
"BANZAI!" Yells a critter
That's landed on my head
The thing is rather jumpy
And weighs like so much lead.
I grumble and I grab him,
Ready to raise hell,
When out of bloody nowhere
Comes another fiendish yell.
"YOU BASTARD!" Shrieks the other,
As it attacks the first;
I sigh and give up sleeping
Resign'ed to the worst.
"This is going nowhere,"
I mutter to the sky,
And separate the urchins
Still growling fit to tie.
Little Val blinks up at me,
Trying to be cute;
I grin back, then GLARE at him;
He freezes and is mute.
Then there's pint-sized Xelloss,
Just as pleased as punch;
I give him a toothy smile
And feed him to Tirrl for lunch.
"That's better," I say to myself
As quiet reigns once more;
I lay back down and close my eyes
- and Kopii starts to snore.
