navy = flashback
Zelgadis walked along the side of a road located in a very small recluse village. He had opted to go back to his normal traveling clothes that he used before the Slayers gang disbanded. He reached up to pull his hood further down across his eyes, more out of habit then anything. Thankfully Gourry had decided to stay at the castle and help Amelia since she seemed to be a nervous wreck. Gourry...as unbelievable as it seemed was beginning to give him the creeps. He knew he had loved Lina but not how much...he gulped...the way he had been clutching the sword of light! Something good had come out of the whole thing...he had given out a clue as to where Lina was.
"Look Zel, I don't want Lina to be unhappy and even after all these years she
still loves you..." a pained look flitted over his features.
Zel just looked on impassively...if this was another one of his games...
"I know where Lina is...and I'm willing to tell you" Gourry finished his face
once again taking on it's schooled expression. Although what you find might
not be what you want..."
Zel eyes widened as he listened to the blond swordsman... "But why...w-why are
you telling me all of this"
"Sore wa himitsu desu!"
Zel blinked and then frowned he snapped his eyes open quickly but the
swordsman was gone. "It couldn't be could it..."
"Lina wait for me I'm almost there..." He was now outside of the town...only a little further..."There! Zelgadis tried to stop himself from breaking out into a full run but he couldn't stop himself as he ran towards no visible hut. With his chemeric speed he was there in only a matter of seconds, stopping in front of the door it finaly dawned on him...what was he supposed to say.
"Lina I'm sorry I tossed you aside"
"Lina I'm sorry I chose Amelia over you"
No those things were definitely not what he wanted to say...Maybe
"So you made it, in only two days no less..."
Zel turned quickly at the sound of the voice his sword already drawn. "What the...Gourry...but it was never really Gourry was it...Xellos?"
The fake Gourry grinned as his shape began to melt into the form of Xellos the trickster priest. "Ne Zel how did...Urk!"
Zel was beyond angry, he was furious his head was tilted at a downward angle his violet hair hung over his face casting his eyes into shadow. His eyes burned with the tears that refused to flow...How dare that damn Mazakou toy with his heart like that! Letting out an animalistic snarl of rage he leapt at the grinning priest, his grip turned deadly as he tried to rip the smiling head from it's body.
Xellos quickly teleported away...when had the rock gotten so touchy? "Are you going to listen or not?" he merrily asked this from his safe position on a tree branch.
"Flare Arrow!"
Xellos easily leaned to the side avoiding the attack, maybe he should have went about a better way to handle this...
"Fireball!"
Xellos dodged again this time opening his eyes again... "Are you going to listen or..."
"Ra Tilt!"
Xellos let out a yelp of surprise as he quickly teleported away from the vicinity of the tree.
Zel raced over to the empty area off to the side of tree and reached out and grabbed for the air. Or so it would soon his arms were soon filled with a not so happy mazakou. "Die!" Zel began to pound on the maddeningly smiling mazakou.
"Lina-chan!"
Zel stopped what he was doing and quickly whipped his head about. A growl worked its way up his throat as he noted the empty space...
Xellos began to babble from his position a safe distance away "You have to listen to me Zelgadis a terrible mistake has been made and you are the only one who can fix it!" he turned on his heel and ran around the small house.
Zel ran right behind not wanting to stop until he had his damn head on a platter. He skidded to a halt as he rounded the corner his eyes scanning the now empty yard. His eyes landed on two gravestones sitting side by side...he was drawn to them. Walking closer his cape silently flapping behind him, kneeling he wiped away the vines that had grown in abundance over the gravestones. Reading he silently wished that he could turn back the clock to where he never even saw these stones...
HERE LIES LINA INVERSE
ENEMY TO ALL BANDITS
DRAGON SPOOKER
GREAT FRIEND TO THOSE THAT KNEW HER
Zel hesitantly removed the vines from the stone settled next to the first:
HERE LIES GOURRY GABRIEV
EXCELLENT SWORDSMAN
BODYGAURD EXTRODINARE
Zel blinked he didn't even realize that he had fallen to his knees...or that his tears that he had thought long ago dried out would come back with a vengeance. His back wracked with sobs, he felt as though he would be sick soon.
Xellos who was unnaturally subdued stared at the two gravestones... "These gravestones are pathetic ne? That's all the fools could think to write...That's what I brought you here for" he looked down in some concern at the hunched form of the chimera. "She wasn't supposed to die you know..."
Something in the tone of voice that Xellos used made him look up. Xellos merely gave a sad smile "Her and Gourry were not supposed to die...something happened when you split up...something that disrupted the time balance. The reason I led you here is because someone went back and messed up with the past" at Zels surprised look he continued on. Somehow or another something happened to change this time and Lina is dead. I managed to find out what it was but..." holding up his finger ready to deliver his trademark phrase he was stopped by a fist to the jaw.
"Ow ok, ok, no need to be picky!" grimacing he rubbed his jaw " Now like I was saying something important happened. Somehow or another you never met Lina-chan and obviously that changed the course of things...see and you said you weren't important!" Xellos chuckled as he pinched the chimera's wet cheeks. Taking Zelgadis's shocked look as a signal to go on he did "Yep somehow or another you never met Lina-chan and somehow that affected the outcome of the battle with shabernigdo, without you there to put a doubt in her mind about Rezo she didn't know about old Shabby and thus couldn't stop the dark lord in time. Hence she and Gourry died in battle. So the question is...are you willing to go back into time and fix everything?"
Zelgadis was in shock he wasn't sure if he could do it...but to see Lina again...and a chance to start from the very beginning... "I'll do it..." his voice came out sounding strained and hoarse, but he didn't care soon he would see her again...he would make things right!
