Last Dance by Brian McKnight.
Do we know more than
We know then
Or do we know less
And we just pretend
Should I ignore my heart
And walk away
Your eyes tell me more
Than words will ever say
Zelgadis peered up into the night sky as he took his turn on watch. From his position of reclining against the trunk of a tree he could make out the sleeping forms of his companions. He really should take his leave of the group; he never had the chance to look for his cure he was always too busy helping the others out of trouble. "I really should go..."
"What good will running away do?"
Zelgadis didn't even grace the new arrival with so much as a nod as he pointedly stared off into the night.
"You know ignoring me is not the best way of getting rid of me"
"Xellos what do you want?"
"Tsk tsk by the tone of your voice one might think you were getting annoyed with me."
Zelgadis sighed in frustration he did not need this right now. "Xellos what do you want..."
"Why nothing of course, only to lend you some helpful advice"
"What kind of advice could you lend me that is actually useful?"
"The wine festival is coming up tomorrow night...if you do intend to tell her then...just keep in mind that she might not be the one for you"
"What...do you mean...How did you..."
"How did I know...Sore wa himitsu desu" Xellos grinned cheekily as he vanished from sight.
Should we take a chance
And dance the last dance
Should we spend the night
One more time
Caught-up in this romance
Of maybe wait and see
Let it be
The way that it will be
Should we take a chance
And dance the last dance
It was the night of the festival and Zelgadis was at odds with himself. How could he...he had nothing to offer. He bowed his head in sorrow...happiness could...no would never be his, not until he could find a cure.
"Zel what the heck are you doing sitting here by yourself! The party is just starting!" Lina stood before the gloomy chimera, leaning down she leaned in so she could get a good look at his face.
Zel sputtered incoherently at the face suddenly pressed too close to his own. "None of your business Lina."
Lina made a face at this comment and pulled the garish mask that zelgadis insisted on wearing off of his face. "Must you keep wearing this thing? It's so ugly, you seriously have no fashion sense whatsoever!" seating herself next to the brooding chimera on the stone bench she let her eyes drift to the sky.
Zel rolled his eyes as he too leaned back on the bench "And must you be so nosy?"
"ohhh aren't we just a tad to touchae"
Zel smirked, it figured Lina would be the one to find him and try to cheer him up. "You look nice tonight"
Lina blushed slightly at the compliment even as she smoothed out the creases in the black dress she had borrowed from Amelia. "Thank you! Now back to you...Romance problems right?"
"What...how did..." Zel was taken aback by Lina's perceptiveness.
"I can tell, you have that kicked puppy look about you" nodding sympathetically Lina took a few guesses at who it might be.
"Lina could we just drop the subject it's not that important..."
"Of course it's important! You're a great guy and any girl who doesn't notice that is nuts!"
"It's not that this girl likes me it's just that ..."
"Just what!" Lina was beginning to get impatient "You know what? It doesn't matter, tonight me and you are going to have fun!" grabbing Zel's arm Lina dragged him off back towards the party.
