"Just go away" I mutter, looking out of the alley way. The crowd has died down a bit.
"That what you really want, Zelgadis?" Xellos opened his eyes, sending a look at me that sent shivers down my spine.
Despite the fact that I really didn't want him to go, I chose pride over feelings. "Damn good-for-nothing Mazoku. Why'd I even waste my breath?"
"Well then Zelgadis... until we meet again... " He phazed out, giving me a cold look.
I'm alone now. I walked out of the alley and out of the town.
Would the others notice I'm gone?
No. They wouldn't even care.
They weren't "friends." Do I even know what a friend is? No... I don't. They were simply travelers who, for a short time, were coincidentally on the same path as me.
Would I ever hear Lina's bossy orders again?
Hear Gourry's un-educated comments?
Hear Amelia's ongoing speeches?
See Filia try to kill Xellos again?
See Xellos's annoying smile?
Probably not.
I leaned against a tree, thinking... trying to find out what is... a "friend" ?
I looked up to see Amelia running towards me.
Trip. Fall. Boom.
"Zelgadis-san!" she cried, getting up and grabbing me by the arm...
"Hmm?" I looked down at her. "What?"
"Hurry up! They're waiting to go!" Amelia said, tugging at my arm.
So they did notice I wasn't there.
"We were about to leave, when I noticed you weren't there. Why did you run away?" she asked.
So... you're the only one who noticed, Amelia? I know it's only because you have a crush on me. But it can't happen. You're too young, and you're far too hyper for me. I'm sorry, but it can't happen.
"Rrrrr... no reason," I replied, starting to walk back.
She looks hurt now. I was a bit cold with her. I hoped soon she would learn it couldn't happen.
We're back at McDuckies now.
"About time!" Lina shouted. "We have to get going!"
"Where are we going today, Lina-san?" Xellos asked, trying to be charming.
This I find hilarious. He tries to be sweet to her, and she returns no affection whatsoever.
He's never discouraged though, and I admire him for his tenacity.
"Millenium City," Lina replied, trudging through town..
"Listen, I dont want to be in a huge group so I'll be on the sidewalk," I said, slowly leaving the group.
"Oya, Zel-chan! I'll come with you!" Xellos chirped, following me, sitting in mid-air.
"No, you go over there. You sitting in mid-air attracts attention!"
"Why, whatever do you mean, Zelgadis-san?" he asked, smiling evilly.
"Why do I waste my breath?" I muttered to myself, picking up the pace.
"Ah, Zelgadis-san, always so bitter... " Xellos said, floating down closer to me.
"Just go away, freak," I snapped.
"What, not going to throttle me?" Xellos asked, laughing.
I reach out, my hands gripping tightly around his neck.
He sighs in pleasure through my grasp.
"You freak," I mumbled, tightening my grip.
He choked on his words, still smiling.
"That feels great, Zel-chan!"
I gave up and let go. It was attracting attention.
I kept walking, and soon, we're out of town with Lina, Gourry, and Amelia, who's looking at me with huge eyes, fidgeting her fingers.
I just don't have the heart to flat out tell her it can't happen.
"Ah, Lina-san, why are we going to Millenium City?" Xellos inquired, zipping to her side.
"There's an auction there on magical items. I'm hoping to find something like the talismans!" Lina said to him.
"Anything special?" Xellos asked, now putting his hands on her shoulders, smiling.
"There's an amulet that might be nice to have."
"The Amulet of Lucifer," I said, knowing because it was recently discovered in the ruins of Felicia, which was very near Millenium City.
"How'd you know?" Lina asked, looking straight at me.
"The Amulet of Lucifer was recently discovered in the ancient ruins of Felicia, located directly 36 miles south of Millenium City. With that amulet, you can conjuer a completely new set of spells. An amulet, which draws power from Lucifer, who is 30,000 years deceased, the husband of Felicia, but then... "
"You sound like a history book, Zel-san! She didn't ask for a complete historical review on it," Xellos teased, laughing.
We walk for the whole day. Xellos kept smiling at me. Why can't he annoy someone else? I'm not in the mood for that right now.
Once we're close to town, we suddenly stopped at a crumbling building.
"There's some kind of... magical force I'm feeling from this shrine!" Lina exclaimed, looking inside.
"It's the Temple of Felicia. There's nothing left here of any value. It's been searched many times," I said, walking toward the city.
"They said that before they found the amulet," Xellos remarked. "Afraid, Zelgadis-san?"
I wasn't afraid, I just really wasn't in the mood for adventures.
"Ah, speaking of the amulet, Lina-san, if you want to find out if it's at that auction, you best not miss the auction. I'm sure it will sell awful quick." Xellos smiled. "But who knows what we might find in here? Treasure that I'm sure won't be a cheap bid!"
Lina blinks and glanced at Xellos. "You have a point. Okay, let's split up!"
"I'm not going with the Mazoku," I warned.
"We'll see... We might have to go separately, depending on the tunnels."
We walk in now, there are two paths.
"Me and Gourry'll take the north path. Xellos, Zel, Amelia, you take the west path! We'll all meet here after the end of our tunnels!"
"I'm not going with the Mazoku," I protested, glaring at him. He smiled and puts an arm around me.
"It'll be fun, Zel-chan!" He opened his eyes, which sparkle like amethysts.
"Fun. Che, don't give me that," I growled, getting loose and walking down the west tunnel.
"You handled that so well, Zelgadis-san!" Amelia praised, walking close to me. "We'll find something incredible, I'm sure! And we'll use whatever we find for the sake of justice!" Amelia continues her justice speech and marches on ahead.
Xellos scooted up close to me. "Such an annoyance. If not for her, I'd be able to have some real fun... " He smiled.
"Fruitcake. It's not like I wanted to be in the same group as you," I mumbled.
But I was happy he was in my group, he was company. Amelia wasn't really the type I'd like to be alone with.
But Xellos... well... it could be worse. It could be Gourry and his uneducated conversations.
Though usually he doesn't show it, Xellos was intelligent, perhaps too intelligent. And I'm almost certain he'll be the end of me.
Amelia continued her justice speech until she tripped and landed in some water. When she looked up, she realized there are cat-like pawprints on the ground.
We followed them. Now this is getting intresting, for they walked into a wall and we stopped.
"Now what, Zelgadis-san?" Amelia asked, looking up to me with those depending eyes.
It can't happen, Amelia. Please accept that.
"Walk through the wall!" Xellos suggested, laughing "Is it that difficult to figure out?"
"You really ARE a fruitcake," I said, leaning against the wall... and falling through.
"Zelgadis-san!" Amelia screamed.
"Just walk through!" Xellos laughed, and the next thing I know... he's through the wall with me.
"Okay... HERE I COME!" Amelia screeched. A few secodns later... "H-hey... I can't get through!"
"Hmm... Go back and go with Gourry and Lina!" Xellos yelled back... then looked to me. "It's just us, Zel-chan... " He smiled.
"Dont get any sick ideas," I warned.
"Too late!" he replied, laughing.
"Fruitcake," I mumbled, following the pawprints.
