Zel woke up the next morning and stared at Lina as she slept.
How could I like such a obnoxious opinionated girl? Zel asked himself. Zelgadis you are a glutton for punishment. If Lina knew how you felt she would fireball you all the way to Seyrunne. Zel smiled bitterly. Not like that is going to happen. Lina wouldn't notice how I felt if it came up and bit her. Zel sighed and looked up at the ceiling. No, she could never love me, I'm not even sure if she likes me. She sure acts like she hates my guts. Oh I wish Grandfather was here to tell me what to do, he's full of great advice. Zel smiled and snickered when he remembered what had happened last night. Now that I think about, why did Rezo blush? I've never seen him blush before, but then again he doesn't have beautiful women fall in his lap everyday. Except for Eris, I'm sure she wouldn't mind. Zel couldn't contain his laughter when he thought about Rezo's 'assistant' Eris.
"What's so funny?" Lina asked irritably as she looked at Zel.
"Nothing, just thinking about Grandfather." Lina smiled as she stood up and placed a cool hand on his forehead.
"Yes that was cute, poor Rezo. Well you're fever has broken." Lina said as she glared down at Zel. "Don't you even pull a stupid stunt like that again Zelgadis Greyweres!"
"What?"
"Putting your life in danger like that! You nearly died Zel." Lina sat down on the edge of Zel's bed. "You scared me there and I hate to be scared." Zel sat up and stared at Lina.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you." Lina sat next to him and leaned against his headboard with he legs stretched out.
"Well you did. I'm so afraid of losing you or someone I'm close to. I don't want to lose you like I did Neechan. I don't want to fail you. Zel hugged her.
"You won't fail me Lina. But why do you blame yourself for your sister's death?" Lina laid her head against Zel's shoulder.
"Because if it wasn't for me, she would still be alive."
"Explain, please." Zel whispered.
"I might as well have killed her." Lina saw the confused expression on Zel's face and sighed. "This guy came to our house one day...."
Lina was playing in the yard of their house when the
violet haired young man had walked up to her.
"Hi there." The man knelt down and smiled at Lina with
closed eyes. "Does Luna Inverse live here?"
"Yes." Lina answered as she brushed off the dirt form
her hand. "She's my Neechan, can I help you?" The
man's smile widened.
"No no, I just have some business with her."
"Oh okay. Neechan! Someone's here to see you!" Lina
shouted as she run up to the house.
"Lina don't shout." Luna's voice cam from inside the
kitchen. Lina screamed when the man picked her up.
"Luna Inverse!" The man shouted. "Come out and face
me, or the child dies." Lina whimpered as the man's
hold on her tightened. He opened his eyes and she
gasped.
"You're a Mazuko!" Lina cried and terror.
"Neechan!!!!" Luna raced out of the house with her
scythe in her hands. Luna's eyes widened when she saw
the violet haired man hold his stave to Lina's throat.
"Lina calm down just calm down." Luna murmured as she
looked at the violet haired man with hatred burning in
her eyes. "Picking on kids now Xellos?" Luna asked
coldly and the man laughed.
"When it's your brat sister Knight of Ceipheed yes I
do." Xellos looked at into Lina's red eyes. "Are you
going to fight me, or am I going to have to kill her?"
Luna raised her scythe.
"Just put the child down." Xellos laughed and threw
Lina into a wall.
Zel wrapped his arms around Lina.
"Shhh, let it out, just let it out." Lina absently noticed that she was curled up in his arms cradled against his chest, but she didn't care. She also noticed the tears that ran down her cheek.
"I killed her, if I had run away, she wouldn't have died."
"It's not your fault you were a child. You had no idea who he was." Lina buried her face into Zel's shoulder as she softly sobbed. "Lina-chan my dear sweet Lina-chan." Zel whispered into her hair. "Don't blame yourself please. I can't stand to see you in pain." Lina looked up at Zel with red puffy eyes. "It's not your fault."
"Yeah but Neechan killed herself to save me. Without me she would have lived."
"It's this Mazuko named Xellos' fault. Gods!" Zel cried eyes his sapphire blue eyes widened. "It was Xellos Metallium! It had to have been."
"Who's he?"
"The Mazuko general." Lina's nodded and was shocked when Zel held her in a crushed hug. "Lina you are so lucky to be alive. He's the one who is after you. It makes sense, he wants to finish the job he started." Lina stiffened in terror. Zel was right, Xellos was still after her. "Lina I won't let him get you I promise." Zel whispered. "He'll never hurt you again I swear it." Lina nodded and tucked her head under Zel's chin.
"Thanks Zel." she whispered as she drifted off to sleep.
"Not a problem." Zel murmured as he stared down at her tears streaked face and he too lay back and drifted off into sleep.
Firia watched as Valgarv landed.
"You!" she snarled in anger. "When I get my hands on you..." Valgarv grabbed Firia.
"Shut up." he muttered as he cast a spell. "There, now you're free." Firia was about to swat him but pauses.
"What?"
"The spell on you, I took it off."
"Of, thank you." Firia blushed slightly.
"What?" Val asked.
"Nothing, I just thought you said something else. I thought you'd freed me." Val smiled.
"Nope, I like having you around Firia. You're very amusing." Val's golden eyes gleamed. "But don't try to escape because I will find you." Firia nodded her head and transformed. Val had to admit her Ryuzoku form was beautiful, for a Gold.
"Try and catch me if you can!" Firia called and Val laughed.
"Like that would be any challenge!" Val called after her as he took to the air.
And he caught up to her and carried her back to his lair... [1]
Lina woke up and noticed that she had fallen asleep, in Zel's arms!
Whoa talk about your dream come true. Lina silently thought and chastised herself for such thoughts. Lina slipped form Zel's loose embrace and crept out the door. She needed to take a walk, yeah that's what she needed. She needed to take a walk. Lina walked outside and let the predawn air clear her head.
"Ahhh, this is heavenly." Lina sighed. She walked on for a few minutes and never noticed the shadows that moved, Lina fell to her knees when something slamed onto the back of her head. She whimpered at the darkness closed in around her and fell unconscious.
Lina woke up and groggily opened her eyes.
"Hello there." Lina found herself looking into a pair of violet eyes. "Welcome Lina Inverse." Xellos Metallium smirked. At least he had her, and this time he wouldn't let her escape!
