Part 10

Zel smiled softly as Lina lay her head on his chest. When she fell asleep he gently picked her up and placed his cape over her, protecting her from the cool night air. With her in his arms, Zelgadis walked back to camp.

When he got there he laid a bedroll next to a tree. Leaning his back against the tree, he placed Lina beside him and they both shared the bedroll. He looked down at her and smiled. She was not snoring like she usually did. But that didn't worry Zel at all. Soon, he drifted off into his own peaceful sleep. With Lina dozing next to him, he had all he ever needed, or would ever need, in life.

2 years later

Lina sat crosslegged in a chair at a restaurant. She casually sipped a cup of coffee as she patted her stomach. She wasn't eating as much as she used to. She had cut down to only seven plates.

Zel sat across from her. His face veil and hood were one but he still looked gorgeous. After they had discovered each other's affections for the other, they had soon departed ways with Gourry and Amelia.

It wasn't all that hard actually. They had met up with Shylfiel along the way and she had managed to drag him off to live with her somewhere. They had been married for 3 months now and Lina understood that they were getting along well.

Amelia, after getting over the shock of not winning Zel's heart, moved on and took a liking to a fellow she had met somewhere along the way. They weren't married yet, but there were rumours of a soon-to-be proposal.

AFter that, her and Zel had been alone. True intimacy couldn't be achieved, however, until Zelgadis had regained a normal, human body. Until then they had to take delight in the little pleasures.

Lina was remembering assorted times of pleasure, with a smile, when a young boy, no older then eleven years, ran up to her. Out of breath, the boy asked, "Are you...are you Ms. Lina Inverse?"

Lina nodded and the boy handed her a letter. She smiled and sent him on his way. Opening the letter and scanning the contents, her smile faded. Standing she handed the letter to Zel. He quickly looked it over and looked up at her.

With a mutual nod, they both ran out the door.
