There was only a narrow ledge surrounding the huge lava pit. With their backs to the cavern wall, the four slowly made their way along the ledge, inching along cautiously. Beneath them, lava bubbled sinisterly; waves of oppresive heat radiated from it, drying the air and making it harder and harder to breathe.
The lava suddenly began bubbling even more furiously. With a low, demonic howl, a dragon's-head of lava slowly rose out of the flaming, spurting liquid rock. It fixed the four friends with a malevolent, piercing stare.
"Not another monster...!" whined Amelia.
"Oh great..." muttered Lina, gathering her magic. "Here we go again..."
