"Fine." Zelgadiss said. "Why do you smile all the time?"

"People tend to trust a smiling face. How old are you?"

"19. Why do you keep following Lina?"

"It's my master's orders. How long have you been travelling alone?"

"A few years, I'm not really sure. Why do you follow me?"

"I like you. Why do you let me?"

"I'm lonely. How can you like me?"

"Really Zel-chan, you're too hard on yourself. You're really quite likeable. If you're lonely, why do you always chase people away."

Zelgadiss blinked. "What?"

"If you're lonely, why do you always chase people away?"

"When did I say I was lonely?"

"When I asked why you let me follow you. Answer the question Zel-chan."

Zelgadiss stared into the fire. He hadn't really been paying attention to his answer; he'd been a little distracted by the one Xellos had given him. Now he was obligated to answer a question he didn't even want to think about. "Because I'm scared." He finally said, still not looking up at the mazoku. "Xellos, is it possible for you to love someone?"

Now it was the mazoku's turn to be silent. Zelgadiss looked up and found him sitting in the tree, eyes open, face serious and staring up at the sky. Patiently the chimera waited for his answer.
